Hello!I need some help.
I am looking for a list of movie quotes from geeky/nerdy movies that deal with love.
I have all the Princess Bride ones!
– Jennifer
So say we all!
Slogging through traditional love quotes can be taxing, especially when you just want something that tingles that geek-loving robot heart of yours.
We root for the geeky underdog to get the girl and hope the battle over evil ends in a big snog.
And we need something relatable for our ceremony readings, invitation wording, and pop culture-filled vows, right?
You demand nerdy romance, funny vow ideas, and swashbuckling toast fodder from movies, TV, and a few books? As you wish…
I will never leave you. That's a promise. – Ripley
The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places. But still there is much that is fair. And though in all lands, love is now mingled with grief, it still grows, perhaps, the greater. – Haldir
I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone. – Arwen
When I say, ‘I love you,' it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you. And I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one. –Spike to Buffy (Spuffy for life!)
Let me tell you something: when it's dark and I'm all alone and I'm scared or freaked out or whatever, I always think, ‘What would Buffy do?' You're my hero. Okay, sometimes when it's dark and I'm all alone I think, ‘What is Buffy wearing?' – Xander to Buffy
You have the ring. And I see that your Schwartz is as big as mine. Now, let's see how well you handle it. – Dark Helmet
Napoleon Dynamite (for maximum impact, sing it)
Why do you love me? Why do you need me? Always and forever. We met in a chat room — now our love can fully bloom. Sure, the World Wide Web is great, but you, you make me salivate. Yes, I love technology, but not as much as you, you see. But I still love technology… always and forever. Our love is like a flock of doves flying up to heaven above. Always and forever.
Love. You can learn all the math in the ‘verse… but you take a boat in the air that you don't love… she'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she ought to fall down… tells you she's hurting before she keels. Makes her a home. – Malcolm Reynolds
Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria! – Dr. Peter Venkman
We came, we saw, we kicked its ass. – Dr. Peter Venkman
Do you believe in UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full trance mediums, the Loch Ness monster and the theory of Atlantis? – Janine
I am the keymaster.
I am the gatekeeper.
(Then kiss.)
Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. – Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows (also Matthew 6:21)
Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears.
‘After all this time?
‘Always,' said Snape.
– J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
I'm going to pull time apart for you. – Amy Pond
Do you wanna come with me? ‘Cause if you do, then I should warn you — you're gonna see all sorts of things. Ghosts from the past. Aliens from the future. The day the Earth died in a ball of flame. It won't be quiet, it won't be safe, and it won't be calm. But I'll tell you what it will be: the trip of a lifetime! – The Ninth Doctor
I'm your density. I mean, your destiny. – George McFly
Stardust, Neil Gaiman
Every lover is, in his heart, a madman, and, in his head, a minstrel. – Tristran
You know when I said I knew little about love? That wasn't true. I know a lot about love. I've seen it, centuries and centuries of it, and it was the only thing that made watching your world bearable. All those wars — pain, lies, hate… It made me want to turn away and never look down again. But when I see the way that mankind loves… you could search to the furthest reaches of the universe and never find anything more beautiful. So yes, I know that love is unconditional. But I also know that it can be unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable, unbearable, and strangely easy to mistake for loathing, and… what I'm trying to say, Tristran is… I think I love you. Is this love, Tristran? I never imagined I'd know it for myself. My heart… it feels like my chest can barely contain it. Like it's trying to escape because it doesn't belong to me any more. It belongs to you. And if you wanted it, I'd wish for nothing in exchange: no gifts, no goods, no demonstrations of devotion. Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just your heart, in exchange for mine. – Yvaine to Tristran
It seems to me that the best relationships, the ones that last, are frequently the ones that are rooted in friendship. You know, one day you look at the person and you see something more than you did the night before. Like a switch has been flicked somewhere. And the person who was just a friend is… suddenly the only person you can ever imagine yourself with. – Dana Scully
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, Douglas Adams
Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.
Tell everyone that when the day is out we shall have a wedding. Or a hanging. Either way, we're gonna have a lot of fun, huh? – Prince John
I'm in lesbians with you. – Scott
When I'm around you, I kind of feel like I'm on drugs. Not that I do drugs. Unless you do drugs, in which case I do them all the time. – Scott
The Nightmare Before Christmas
My dearest friend, If you don't mind, I'd like to join you by your side. Where we could gaze into the stars, and sit together, now and forever. For it is plain as anyone could see, we're simply meant to be. – Jack
The Princess Bride (I had to include it!)
Death cannot stop true love. It can only delay it a little while. – Westley
That day, she was amazed to discover that when he was saying ‘As you wish,' what he meant was, ‘I love you.' And even more amazing was the day she realized she truly loved him back. – Grandfather
Westley: Hear this now: I will always come for you.
Buttercup: But how can you be sure?
Westley: This is true love — you think this happens every day?
True love is the greatest thing, in the world-except for a nice MLT — mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. – Miracle Max
And the classic:
I love you.
I know. – Han to Leia (AND Leia to Han)

Ahhh thanks for this!! I’ve been trying to compile a lot of awesome quotes for our centerpieces and this was really helpful.
These are awesome! I only wished I had them a couple of months ago when I made our photo guest book, though I did use the Mal one. Oh well, maybe I can use them somewhere else…
It’s not *exactly* a love quote on its own, but for visual effect, I’m going to be using it on my programs.
It’s the Legend of Zelda health heart image and it’s captioned “It’s Dangerous Out There! Take This!” Depending on exactly how you’re going to be using the quotes, this could work nicely
TOTALLY! That one is super versatile.
Agh, sorry! I can’t let this one go by … the quote is “It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this.”
A friend made an awesome little Zelda cross-stitch for me along the same lines. It had the pixel image of one of the original game fairies with the heart health bar underneath it, and it said “You fill my hearts!”
I love the idea of using something like that in the programs!
That’s just me being at work — I have the right one at home, I swear! haha
But, yeah, it’s going on it!
I love this. One to add:
Willow
“You are my sun, my moon, my starlight sky. Without you, I dwell in darkness. I love you! Your power has enchanted me, I stand helpless against it. Come to me, now. Tonight, let me worship you in my arms. I love you!” Madmartigan to Sorcha
Gah! Willow! That was a miss. Great catch.
Aghhh, my favourite geeky obsession is sadly under represented! Here are a couple of my favourites from the Hunger Games trilogy:
“Remember, we’re madly in love, so it’s all right to kiss me anytime you feel like it.”
– Peeta, The Hunger Games
“Did you love Annie right away, Finnick?” I ask.
“No.” A long time passes before he adds, “She crept up on me.”
– Katniss and Finnick, Mockingjay
And suddenly, it’s as if there’s no one in the world but these two, crashing through space to reach each other. They collide, enfold, lose their balance, and slam against a wall, where they stay. Clinging into one being. Indivisible. A pang of jealousy hits me. Not for either Finnick or Annie but for their certainty. No one seeing them could doubt their love.
– Mockingjay
“You love me. Real or not real?”
I tell him, “Real.”
– Peeta and Katniss, Mockingjay
because a little ‘happily ever after’ never hurt:
“Mr. Wonka: “Don’t forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he wanted.”
Charlie Bucket: “What happened?”
Mr. Wonka: “He lived happily ever after.”
– Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory/ willie wonka and the chocolate factory
Awww, that would make a great ceremony closer!
I was watching Juno this weekend and I love this quote…
Juno: I need to know that it’s possible for two people to stay happy together forever.
Mr. MacGuff: Well, it’s not easy, that’s for sure. And I don’t have the best track record in the world, I know. But your step-mother and I have been married for ten years now and I’m proud to say that we are very happy. Look, in my opinion the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what-have-you. The right person is still going to think the sun shines out of your ass. That’s the kind of person that’s worth sticking with.”
I can’t believe this Doctor Who one wasn’t in there! From “The Girl Who Waited”:
“You know when sometimes you meet someone so beautiful and then you actually talk to them and five minutes later they’re as dull as a brick? Then there’s other people, when you meet them you think, “Not bad. They’re okay.” And then you get to know them and… and their face just sort of becomes them. Like their personality’s written all over it. And they just turn into something so beautiful. Rory’s the most beautiful man I’ve ever met.”
Came to the comments to make sure this one was here! One of my favorite quotes from Doctor Who!
My friends totally used this in their ceremony this weekend. The groom’s vows were almost entirely movie quotes and it was geektacular.
It doesn’t fit the criteria of vows or geekness (unless you count my obsession with the show), but when we were writing our own ceremony (plans were nixed), we were going to have a friend start out by reciting the part Joey Tribianni was going to say at Monica and Chandler’s wedding on FRIENDS.
“We are gathered here today on this joyous occasion to celebrate the special love that Tina and Marko share. It is a love based on giving and receiving. As well as having and sharing. And the love that they give and have is shared and received. And through this having and giving and sharing and receiving. We too can share and love and have and receive…When I think of the love that these two givers and receivers share, I can not help but envy the lifetime ahead of having and loving and giving and receiving.
If I was a guest and this happened at a wedding, I wouldn’t be able to control my laughter. I love Joey!
I, too, am obsessed with this show (have all 10 seasons and watch them religiously), and the beginning of my vows are what Monica says to Chandler, with some minor adjustments. I could totally see us having this at our wedding! I actually want this haha!
My friend’s sister read this at her wedding too, i love it!
The Serenity quote will always be my absolute favorite. Actually, I only read this post because once I saw the title I wanted to be sure that quote was on the list. lol
My friend’s mom read that quote at his wedding. Combined with the joy of seeing him and his wife(!) finally get married, I was so happy I could barely contain myself!
Because my guy and I are fans of Tolkien, we’re using a few of his lines from the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings.
“I’m looking for someone to share an adventure that I’m arranging.” – Gandalf from The Hobbit
“And he lived happily ever after, until the end of his days.” – Bilbo in The Fellowship of The Ring
Not quite the most romantic, but definitely fitting for our needs and wants.
Another good Doctor Who quote.
The Doctor: I said you were the most beautiful thing I’d ever known.
Idris/TARDIS: Then you stole me. And I stole you.
The Doctor: I borrowed you.
Idris: Borrowing implies the eventual intention to return the thing that was taken. What makes you think I would ever give you back?
I love that episode so freaking much. There’s great competition for my favorite Doctor Who episode, but that one just might take it, even from my beloved Nine.
These are from books, not movies, but they’re all pretty romantic. I used them at my literary wedding.
Our readings were:
“This is for you, for both of you,” by Neil Gaiman (first line; poem is untitled)
Darwin’s Notes of Marriage (Made When Deciding Whether or Not to Marry)
And here are some quotations we used; guests were given quotations rather than table numbers. Somewhat more suited for literary geeks than movie geeks…but maybe workable?
“You’re brave. You are the bravest person I know, and you are my friend. I don’t care if you are imaginary.” – Neil Gaiman, Coraline (also a movie)
“The mere habit of learning to love is the thing.” – Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey
“Could there be finer symptoms? Is not general incivility the very essence of love?” – Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
“‘Happy endings must come at the end of something,’ the Walrus pointed out. ‘If they happen in the middle of a story, or an adventure, or the like, all they do is cheer things up for awhile.'” – Salman Rushdie, Haroun and the Sea of Stories
“Grief can take care of itself; but to get the full value of a joy you must have someone to divide it with.” – Mark Twain, Pudd’nhead Wilson
“Now I didn’t know I was drawing a prize, yet that was what I did draw. Within the twelvemonth I became her worshiper; and ours was the dearest and perfectest comradeship that ever was. ” – Mark Twain, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court
“The problem is simply finding the right person. Ask Plato. Just make sure she finishes your thoughts and you finish hers. That’s all you need.” – Elizabeth Kostova, The Swan Thieves
“Oh, damn the man, I grumbled. Why couldn’t he just be manipulated by pretty words the way other husbands were?” – Laurie R. King, A Letter of Mary
“I would always rather be happy than dignified.” – Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre
One of my personal favorites is a Star Trek: TNG quote by Riker, to Data: “My neural pathways have become accustomed to your sensory input patterns.” Data: “I am also fond of you, Commander.”
I’ve got a few more from Doctor Who:
The Doctor: All of time and space; everywhere and anywhere; every star that ever was. Where do you want to start?
The Doctor: There are fixed points throughout time where things must stay exactly the way they are. This is not one of them. This is an opportunity! Whatever happens here will create its own timeline, its own reality, a temporal tipping point. The future revolves around you, here, now, so do good!
Amy: When I was a kid I had an imaginary friend. The Raggedy Doctor. My Raggedy Doctor. But he wasn’t imaginary. He was real. I remember you. I remember! I brought the others back, I can bring you home too. Raggedy Man, I remember you and you are late for my wedding! I found you. I found you with words like you knew I would. That’s why you told me the story. The brand new ancient blue box. Oh clever. Very clever. Something old. Something new. Something borrowed. Something blue.
Rory: It’s the Doctor. How did we forget the Doctor. I was plastic…
I was plastic… he was the stripper at my stag… long story!
I always liked this one from Hellboy
“I can promise you two things. One: I’ll always look this good. Two: I’ll never give up on you… ever.”
Toy Story – ‘To infinity, and beyond’
The office –
Jim: All I know is, every time I’ve been faced with a tough decision, there’s only one thing that outweighs every other concern. One thing that will make you give up on everything you thought you knew. Every instinct, every rational calculation,
Dwight: A virus?
Jim: It’s Love. No matter what happens, you gotta forget about all the other stuff. You’ve gotta forget about logic and fear and doubt. You’ve just gotta do everything you can, to get to the one woman who’s gonna make all this worth it. At the end of the day, you’ve got to jump.
There’s lots more from The Office too. It’s very romantic!
WONDERFUL! More please <3
Spuffy for life!!!
My gift cards read “Love makes you do the wacky” ~Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Relatively new movie, so not a classic, but the end of Safety Not Guaranteed is pretty great:
To go it alone or to go with a partner: When you choose a partner you have to have compromises and sacrifices but it’s the price you pay. Do I want to follow my every whim and desire as I make my way through time and space? Absolutely. But at the end of the day do I need someone when I’m doubting myself and I’m insecure and my heart’s failing me? Do I need someone who when the heat gets hot has my back? I do.
I nominate this little bit from Calvin + Hobbes:
Calvin: What’s it like to fall in love?
Hobbes: Well … say the object of your affection walks by … yeah? First your heart falls into your stomach and splashes your innards. All the moisture makes you sweat profusely. This condensation shorts the circuits to your brain, and you get all woozy. When your brain burns out altogether, your mouth disengages and you bable like a cretin until she leaves.
Calvin: That’s love?!?
Hobbes: Medically speaking.
Calvin: Heck, that happened to me once, but I figured it was cooties!!
Really, a Spuffy quote with no balancing Angel quote? That’s not fair! (I kid, but we did use this one for one of our tables as well as a number of the others you listed and a smattering from anime.)
Angel: In 243 years I’ve loved exactly 1 person.
Buffy: Oh. It is me right?
And, because it’s my favorite Buffy-verse ship:
Fred: I’m sorry. I’m being ridiculous, I know. It’s just – I don’t have a lot of experience in this area. I spent the last five years in a cave.
Gunn: Yeah, I know what that’s like.
Fred: How could you?
Gunn: Because now everything’s so bright my eyes hurt.
This quote is one of my favorites! “There’s a lot of things you need to get across this universe. Warp drive… wormhole refractors… You know the thing you need most of all? You need a hand to hold.” ~ Tenth Doctor, Doctor Who
I love love Moulin Rouge ? “come what may” and ” the greatest thing you will ever learn is just to love and be loved in return”
It’s not meant to be romantic but I want to include a tweaked version of this from
Lord of the Rings (A Conspiracy Unmasked):
Merry: You can trust us to stick to you, through thick and thin – to the bitter end. And you can trust us to keep any secret of yours – closer than you keep it yourself. But you cannot trust us to let you face trouble alone, and go off without a word. We are your friends, Frodo.”
My ABSOLUTE favorite from Doctor Who
NEW DOCTOR )(Doctor Donna): I’m part human. Specifically, the aging part. I’ll grow old and never regenerate. I’ve only got one life, Rose Tyler. I could spend it with you, if you want.
ROSE: You’ll grow old at the same time as me?
NEW DOCTOR: Together.
I cry every single freaking time.
So many fantastic ones here!!!
Here is a personal favorite I plan on using on my Save-the-Dates:
From Star Trek: DS9 “The Armageddon Game”
Cheri O’Brien to Dr. Bashir –
“Adventure. Marriage is the greatest adventure of them all. It’s filled with pitfalls and setbacks and mistakes, but it’s a journey worth taking…because you take it together.”
Realism and romance. 🙂
Holy crap I love you! We’ve been looking for a quote to guide our pastor(childhood friend) and I think this is it!
From Game of Thrones… nerding out in our ceremony for sure.
Khal Drogo: You are the moon of my life. That is all I know and all I need to know. And if this is a dream, I will kill the man who tries to wake me.
Daenerys Targaryen: Until the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, until the rivers run dry and the mountains blow in the wind like leaves. You are my sun & stars.
Aw, this made me smile. I said “as you wish” to @xingbot during a rather fraught period, and that’s when he realized I was saying “I love you,” – even if I didn’t realize it myself.
(I also, unintentionally, responded “I know” when he said “I love you.” Wasn’t trying to make a Star Wars reference – I think some things just get in your bones.)
My fav Doctor Who quote: “One may tolerate a world of demons for the sake of an angel.”
My favorite wedding scene from a tv show is from Numb3rs and is the perfect amount of geeky and utterly beautiful:
“At the request of the bride and groom, I’ll keep my remarks short and not technical. Well, as you all know, the four fundamental forces of physics: electromagnetism, strong nuclear interaction, weak nuclear interaction, and gravity.
(Colby Granger – So I wonder what the technical version sounds like?)
(Dr. Larry Fleinhardt – I heard that.)
We’ve been talking here about the forces that bind the universe. But what binds humans? Love.
Powerful in small spaces, yet with profound effect on distance. Love defies time, outliving both its source, and its object. Love is faster than light, for light requires time in order to travel through space. But love reaches its object instantaneously.
Love journeys forever, into infinity. And it’s here, binding together two lives.
Can we have the rings? Symbolic of eternity, and rendered in a beautiful element.
Amita Ramanujan, do you take Charles Edward Eppes to be your husband? (Yes, I do.) Charles Edward Eppes, do you take Amita Ramanujan to be your wife? (I do.)
I pronounce you: husband and wife.”
We had the We are One from Babylon 5 amended slightly and the story of the Klingon Heart from Star Trek DS9 also amended slightly
The Universe speaks in many languages, but only one voice.
The language is not English or Vulcan or Welsh or Minbari.
It is not Wookie or Canadian or Ewok or Spanish.
It speaks in the language of hope. It speaks in the language of trust.
It speaks in the language of strength, and the language of compassion.
It is the language of the heart and the language of the soul.
But always it is the same voice.
It is the voice of our ancestors speaking through us.
And the voice of our inheritors waiting to be born.
It is the small, still voice that says we are One.
No matter the blood, no matter the skin, No matter the world, no matter the star,
We are One.
No matter the pain, no matter the darkness, No matter the loss, no matter the fear.
We are One.
Here, gathered together in common cause
We agree to recognize this singular truth and this singular rule: That we must be kind to one another.
Because each voice enriches us and ennobles us, And each voice lost diminishes us.
We are the voice of the universe, the soul of creation, The fire that will light
the way to a better future.
We are One.
“With fire and steel the Klingon heart was forged. So fiercely did it beat, so loud was the sound, that they cried, ‘On this day we have brought forth the strongest heart. None can stand before it without trembling at its strength.
But then the Klingon heart weakened, its steady rhythm faltered and they said, ‘Why do you weaken so? We have made you the strongest.’
And the heart said… ‘I am alone.’
And they knew that they had erred. So they went back to their forge and brought forth another heart.
But the second heart beat stronger than the first, and the first was jealous of its power. Fortunately, the second heart was tempered by wisdom.
‘If we join together, no force can stop us.’
And when the two hearts began to beat together, they filled the heavens with a terrible sound. For the first time, they knew fear. They tried to flee, but it was too late. The Klingon hearts destroyed the ones who created them. To this very day, no one can oppose the beating of two Klingon hearts.”
I’m a little late to the party, but for my wedding I’ll be writing quotes on everyone’s place card (which will actually be Mario Bros ? Boxes, not cards).
Here are some of my favourites:
From Futurama:
“I moved the stars themselves to write her a love note in the sky.”
“He’s bluffing! No creature would willingly make an idiot out of itself!”
“Obviously you’ve never been in love.”
From Terminator:
“And maybe it’ll be enough if you know that in the few hours we had together we loved a lifetime’s worth.”
And from Doctor Who (Tenth Doctor)
“So the year 5 billion the sun expands, the Earth gets roasted.”
“That was our first date.”
“We had chips!”
“How long are you going to stay with me?”
“Forever.”
And many more, including some of the ones mentioned above 🙂
These were my vows for my wedding in November.
I tried to include something that we both loved, and that we both had a interest in. All the references turned out being super awesome 🙂 I said a little sappy bit before this, about how much i love him etc etc, and then this..
I want you to know that if I had the choice between hanging around with anyone in the entire world or staying at home eating pizza and watching a crappy T.V show with you, I’d choose you every time. (* This is what JD says to Elliot in Scrubs the first time he tells her he loves her*)
I would rather share one lifetime with you, than face all the ages of this world alone. (*Arwen to Aragorn in The Lord of The Rings*)
I wanted to say something less sentimental that really reflected us. So, I thought that all our favorite movies, T.V shows, romances, and interests could help me.
So with all that said, I vow these things to you:
I promise to be the Rachel to your Ross, (*friends)
The Carla to your Turk, (*Scrubs)
Your light of Eärendil the dark (*Lord of The Rings)
And to always do your dirty work.
I vow to always be your fireball
And to be someone you can bet on,
I promise well be just like Will Turner
To his Elizabeth Swan. (*Pirates of the Caribbean)
I promise to always protect you
And to always be silly,
I promise to always love you
Just like Snape loves Lilly. (*Harry Potter)
I vow to always give you my leftovers
And to cook and tidy when your sick,
I promise to lift you up like a clean, (*Weightlifting, as in Clean & Jerk)
And be the Lori to your Rick. (*The Walking Dead)
I promise to beat you in Mortal Kombat
Mainly because you suck,
But ill always be the princess Peach to your Mario (*Mario Bros.)
And the Blair Waldorf to her Chuck. (Gossip Girl)
I’ll try to split the bills
Although I shouldn’t be promising anything rash,
But well stick together just like Kermit and marbles (Jenna Marbles Dogs)
And Pikachu to Ash. (*Pokemon)
I promise to always make time for you
Even when were really busy,
Because just like a pre-workout
You still make me dizzy.
I promise to never break your heart
And never leave you alone,
I promise you’ll never falter or crack
Just like a Nokia phone.
I know that well fight
And I know I can be Lego-sharp,
But today and forever
I give you my heart.
You… are amazing. And I am crying now.
From the original Addams Family tv show:
MORTICIA [recalling the day she met Gomez]: I’ll never forget that day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing…
GOMEZ: I knew we were in for trouble.
Thank you for interesting information.
NOOOOO not the creepy Snape quote! How does it get by so many people that it was one-sided, creepy, and selfish of him to try and MAKE Lily love him, even after all the crap he pulled? He made his decision a long time ago when he chose the Death Eaters over his “best friend”. And it’s clearly shown in the book too! (Even though Rowling totally had Harry name his CHILD after a monstrous teacher that abused his power and his students, and didn’t even like him!)
Yeah, but he also accepted that he ruined all of the possibility that might have been. He was bitter and cruel and creepy to a degree, but there are people who really only connect with one person and if that fails (whether through their own fault or not) they close off that part of themselves.
Snape loved her beyond death and submitted to torture to try to correct his mistakes. It’s not puppies and rainbows, but there is merit in his actions. He doesn’t stop loving her – even though there will be no benefit for him. The character very much reminds me of Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein, “If I cannot inspire love, then I shall inspire fear”. Snape is the immature, fearful of rejection, abused person who needs love but can’t understand that he could be loved. Basically, he came out of the box damaged goods but still managed to love someone else – no matter that he wasn’t accepted. He’s a crueler version of Ducky from Pretty in Pink.
No call to dis someone’s love for the “Always”. Just means that they may have different experiences or read the character differently. “What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly”.
😉
Love these! I would like to add a few from one of my favorite films Labyrinth when Jareth says ‘You turn my world you precious thing’ and of course ‘It’s only forever, not long at all!’ Will be using that as an inscription on our wedding rings 🙂
I have to add this X- Files one, once described by another fan to be the equivalent of Mulder and Scully’s wedding vows:
Mulder: Scully, I was like you once – I didn’t know who to trust. Then I… I chose another path… another life, another fate, where I found my sister. The end of my world was unrecognisable and upside down. There was one thing that remained the same. You… were my friend, and you told me the truth. Even when the world was falling apart, you were my constant… my touchstone.
Scully: And you are mine.
We put quotes in picture frames in the middle of the tables as part of the centerpieces (along with a 3D cut out of the related icon/logo). We used “I am _ _ _ _ locked” and “Brainy is the new sexy” from Sherlock, “I’ve only got one life. I could spend it with you if you want” and “I can’t let you die without knowing you are loved. By so many and so much. But by no one more than me” from Doctor Who and “If we join together no forces can stop us” and “Caring for each other, being happy with each other, being good to each other. That’s what we call love” from Star Trek. I wanted quotes from our mutual fandoms and I didn’t want TOO much sap. I matted them in glitter card stock in a deco frame. My glitz and our geek without isolating more mainstream family, it was wonderful!
This comment is super old, haha, but maybe you have email alerts set up. 😀
This is exactly my plan for centerpieces! I wanted to take some quotes from our favorite games/books/etc and use one on each table somehow. I was thinking maybe with a silhouette on a lighted vase/box or something related to the source (the ship for something from Mass Effect, that outline of them walking single file from LotR, etc.)
Do you have a photo you’re comfortable sharing/emailing? I’d love to see! It’s been hard to google, I don’t know how to phrase it.
Preston Burke- Cristina, I could promise to hold you and to cherish you. I could promise to be in sickness and in health. I could say, til death do us part. But I won’t. Those vows are for optimistic couples, the ones full of hope. And I do not stand here, on my wedding day, optimistic or full of hope. I am not optimistic, I am not hopeful, I am sure. I am steady. And I know that I am a heart man. I take them apart and I put them back together and I hold them in my hands. I am a heart man. So this I am sure, you are my partner, my lover, my very best friend, my heart, my heart beats for you. And on this day, the day of our wedding, I promise you this: I promise you to lay my heart in the palm of your hands, I promise you me. (“Grey’s Anatomy: Didn’t We Almost Have It All? (#3.25)” )
Wow nice one
How does one fall in love? Do you trip? Do you stumble, lose your balance and drop to the sidewalk, graze your knee, graze your heart? Do you crash to the stony ground? Is there a precipice, from which you float, over the edge, forever?
I know I’m in love when I see you, I know when I long to see you. Not a muscle has moved. Leaves hang unruffled by any breeze. The air is still. I have fallen in love without taking step. When did this happen? I haven’t even blinked.
I’m on fire. Is that too banal for you? It’s not, you know. You’ll see. It’s what happens. It’s what matters. I’m on fire.
I no longer eat, I forget to eat. Food looks silly to me, irrelevant. If I even notice it. But I notice nothing. My thoughts are full and raging, a house full of brothers, related by blood, feuding blood feuds:
“I’m in love.”
“Typically stupid choice.”
“I am, though, I’m racked by love as if love were pain.”
“Go ahead. Fuck up your life. It’s all wrong and you know it. Wake up. Face it.”
“There’s only one face, it’s all I see, awake or asleep.”
I threw the book out the window last night. I tried to forget. You are all wrong for me, I know it, but I no longer care for my thoughts unless they’re thoughts of you. When I’m close to you, in your presence, I feel your hair brush my cheek when it does not. I look away from you, sometimes. Then I look back.
When I tie my shoes, when I peel an orange, when I drive my car, when I lie down each night without you, I remain,
As ever,

I can’t believe no one has suggested Full Metal Alchemist yet!
Ed: “EQUIVALENT EXCHANGE!”
Winry: “Huh?”
Ed: “I’ll give half of my life to you, and you give half of yours to me!”
I know this isn’t the most popular Star Trek, and I have my problems with it as well, but this speech is pretty dang good, and I melt every time I hear it.
“I’m not sure I can… define parameters. But I can tell you a story, an ancient legend among my people. It’s about an angry warrior, who lived his life in conflict with the rest of his tribe. A man who couldn’t find peace, even with the help of his spirit guide. For years he… struggled with his discontent. But the only satisfaction he ever got came when he was in battle. This made him a hero among his tribe; but the warrior still longed for peace within himself. One day, he and his war party… were captured by a neighboring tribe, led by a woman warrior. She called on him to join her, because her tribe was too small and weak to defend itself from all its enemies. The woman warrior was brave and beautiful, and very wise. The angry warrior swore to himself… that he would stay by her side, doing whatever he could to make her burden lighter. From that point on, her needs would come first. And in that way… the warrior began to know… the true meaning of peace.”
