Over on Offbeat Home, we have a section devoting to re-purposing your wedding decor as home goods. But let's talk about repurposing home decor at a wedding! Do you have a registry? Think about adding things to your home registry that can pull double-duty at your wedding.
I recently moved, and have been buying things like curtains and rugs for the new space, and was thinking “holy shit, these would also be cool to use at a wedding.” So, inspired by my recent purchases, here are some things you could add to your registry (Amazon registries FTW!) and then I hope to see some of these things at your weddings…
Wall hangings
Use a wall-hanging, or curtains, as the backdrop to your wedding ceremony, and then hang them in your home afterwards.
![Register for these home goods AND use them at your wedding 3 from Offbeat Wed (formerly Offbeat Bride) Use this macrame wall hanging for your living room and as the backdrop to your wedding ceremony!](http://offbeatwed.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Magical-Thinking-Macrame-Wall-Hanging-800x1200.jpg)

Rugs
Use a rug for your ceremony, and then use it in your home forever afterwards!

Table runners
Got long tables at your reception? Register for awesome table runners and then use them on your dining table at home for every day decor, or break them out for Thanksgiving dinner every year.

Napkins
I'm having a real moment with Turkish Towels lately — I use them as hand towels in the bathroom and dish towels in the kitchen, and am thinking of using the bigger ones for bath towels/picnic blankets. Register for these hand towels and use them as napkins on your reception tables first…

Chotchkies
Register for things like candles, and candy bowls, and votives, and then use them all for your reception decor.

Offbeat Wed Vendor
This page features vendors from our curated Offbeat Wed Vendor Directory. They're awesome and we love them. If you're a vendor let's get you in here!
Here’s the only problem with this idea: things happen. Weddings get cancelled or postponed for whatever reason and in those situations, you really should return the gifts, which if you’ve already opened them to use at your wedding can be difficult or impossible. If that is a risk you are willing to take, that’s fine, but I would certainly wait as long as possible to open the packaging.
That’s the joy of Amazon though right? If you had to return a gift you’d already opened, you could just reorder it from Amazon.
Yeah but wouldn’t it be kinda weird to be a guest at this wedding and be like, “hey, those candle holders looks awfully similar to the ones I just bought you off your registry… weren’t they supposed to be for your home?” Seems like it’d be slightly uncomfortable
That’s exactly what I thought. People bought the gifts ideally for your HOME, not for your wedding.
I feel the opposite. I’d be STOKED to see the gift I got a friend being used front-and-center at their wedding. It’d make me feel all speshy-spesh — like, through my gift, I was more of a part of their wedding as well as their every day home life afterwards.
Definitely a ‘know your crowd’ thing….
I think you can affect the reactions by telling people beforehand that some of the items on the list will be used as part of the decor during your wedding. Nothing wrong with being upfront about that. 🙂
Here is probably some cultural difference in play, but where I live gifts are not sent before hand but the guests bring them to the wedding party. So in situation like this, who is the one who opens the gift to find the table runners and then rushes them to the table before everyone sits down? And how do they know which gifts are the things you need? Seem awfully complicated to me…
