About time we got a DIY project from a self-identified Groomzilla! Check out Tribesman Stevejust‘s badass centerpieces.
Our wedding had this sort of urban-eco theme going on. With street art. So we brought the streets to the wedding. In keeping with our invitations, guest book, and programs, this is what we came up with for the centerpieces.
Here’s a look at the behind-the-scenes construction:
We laid out some cinder blocks. Next we stenciled a plum blossom from a card playing game called Hwatu (the Korean version of Hanafuda) that Audrey used to play with her mom as a child. We used a glittery spray paint called Cherry Blossom Bomb. It doesn’t show up as well in the photos as it did in real life.
On the back side of each cinder block center piece, we spray painted the stencil for each table number.
To complete the project, we put lily grass in each of the holes in the center of the cinder blocks — to capture that sort of “patch of unburned green” that Bad Religion sang about in that song “Struck a Nerve.” Then we added a single red heart balloon anchored to each block to echo the Banksy Balloon Girl theme that we used throughout the wedding.

I really like it! It is simple but makes a statement, love it. I am personally not really a big fan on the floral centerpiece-thing (we are doing photos for our wedding), so I especally love this!
That looks super sharp! I think I can safely say I’d never thought to stencil cinder blocks for anything, let alone centerpieces. Rock on!

We had a friend do the wedding photos. As soon as we get them, we will do a final run-down of the whole thing. We promise!

This is sooo amazing. What were the logistics like for table placement? I.e. who lifted the blocks- you, venue, a friend in construction, outside equipment?
The caterers did the heavy lifting. We had the man of honor and Steve’s brothers lined up to do it, because we thought they’d balk at it (they were fairly heavy) but they did it while everyone else enjoyed themselves.
