Date and location of wedding: Sundream Yachts, Fort Lauderdale, FL — December 4, 2015

Our offbeat wedding at a glance:

It was a destination wedding for the majority of our family and friends who were pleasantly anticipating getting away to South Florida and escape the cold winter months up north. The entire wedding was orchestrated on a three-story yacht sailing on the intra-coastal waters of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The theme was a mix of tropical and contemporary with a Bollywood twist.

Tell us about the ceremony:

It was as thrilling as it was heart-warming to walk down the aisle to “A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes” from Cinderella to say our vows. We were fortunate to be able to have our toy poodle and chihuahua carry our rings down the aisle to us. All in all, it was an exceptionally magical moment we will cherish for the rest of our lives.

Tell us about your reception:

Following the ceremony and cocktail reception, we did a quick change from our tuxedos into Swarovski-bedazzled traditional groomswear from India. We had our first dance as a wedded couple to John Legend's “All of Me.”

We had custom cake toppers made to resemble us complete with a chihuahua and poodle in Swarovski.

The sweetest moments were when we had out mother/son dances to Bette Midler's “Wind Beneath my Wings.”

What was your most important lesson learned?

You can spend an enormous amount of time and effort planning and worrying over the details of the day, but eventually nothing matters more than seeing all your loved ones gathered together to celebrate one of the most important days of your lives. That is what makes it all worthwhile in the end.
