Kilts, handmade gowns, and a William Wallace sword — it’s the Braveheart-themed wedding of your fantasy-filled dreams! Two days, a nighttime “secret ceremony,” and The Texas Ren Fest makes for a an awesome time. And since these two are Army vets, it made perfect sense to have the wedding on Veteran’s Day.
Rhiannon & Alex’s communal home-brew camp wedding
Nothing says a challenge like combining two families into a mega-project-management wedding! But this wedding in the middle of a combined family Thanksgiving is nothing if not a great example of loving collaboration. Add in the mossy forest-inspired decor, the Wai-Ching dress, and the HUGE origami crane “arch,” and you’ll be a convert into the communal wedding planning way of life.
Natalie & Tim’s green-filled access-a-wedding
This wedding has all the D’s: an awesome dog, a handmade dress, art gallery-style personalized decor, and a focus on disability. The pair also came up with a very cool way to combine their two families in a musical way. Oh, and just try to contain your FEELS when you hear what the bride’s dad pulled out during his speech.
Emma & Brian’s geeky rainy love fest wedding
This wedding is such a testament to budget weddings and their ability to be completely awesome without lots of bells and whistles. But three things they definitely found room for were their three geek-tastic cakes: Star Wars, Star Trek, and Doctor Who. You’ll also never guess how one of the bride’s brothers found a way to be present without actually being able to attend. Plus, we dare you to find ALL the geeky and bookish references in their epic, communal ceremony reading. So many references!
Charlie & Quinten’s barefoot faux-forest indoor picnic wedding
Tons of handmade pillows, hay bales, leaves, and picnic blankets — it must be an outdoor wedding, right? Nope! But it may as well be. Due to some wet weather, these two brought the outdoors in for a green and brown faux-forest wedding. Even the flower girl and ring bearer got in on the theme action. Chalk up some bare feet, some lovely poetry, and a big ol’ party, and you’re ready for forest-y fun indoors.
How I made my own green Victorian-inspired wedding dress
The journey of my dress began in a fabric shop where I discovered a luscious, sage green velvet embroidered with leafy vines and flower buds. I left the shop and went home, but couldn’t stop thinking about that cloth. The next day I went back to look again and bought 8.5 yards of the fabric, everything the store had on hand. After enlisting the help of my friend, this is how I made my own Victorian-inspired wedding dress!
