Our offbeat wedding at a glance: Music was a big part of the ceremony. I'm a huge music lover and my husband has kind of become one after being with me. The background music was '50s rock and we walked back up the aisle to “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen. We had to have a favorite Beatles song played during dinner, “Come Together.”
We handmade all the bouquets from sheet music my great-mother had when she was my age. And my hubby had a super hero cape waiting for him when we sat down at our '50s diner table for dinner because he's a HUGE comic book nerd. It was one giant mishmash of nerdy, musical fun.
Tell us about the ceremony: My mom walked me down the aisle. We didn't want traditional vows since my hubby is agnostic and I'm not particularly religious, so our officiant turned our vows into a very musical theme. He closed the ceremony wanting our lives “entwined with many beautiful harmonies and melodies.”
Our biggest challenge: For us it was something that most couples have to overcome: budget. We DIYed a lot of it, including the center pieces — record bowls and sundae glasses which doubled as our cutlery holders. The food was all cooked by Dominic's amazing aunt, and our cake was our wedding gift from a family friend (we planned on paying her to make it for us, but she generously gifted it).
My favorite moment: For me, it was seeing Dominic start to cry seeing me walk down the aisle. We've been been together for four years, and I've only seen him cry once.
My funniest moment: Walking back up the aisle in our first moments of wedded bliss, my heel caught the divot in between the concrete and I fell. Just a skinned knee and a huge laugh. I immediately hopped up and yelled, “I'm good!” and we kept on going.
My advice for Offbeat Brides: Don't be afraid to mix things up. If you have lots of interests that you want to show off on your wedding day, do it! I can't tell you how many people thought this nerd retro feel sounded kinda strange, but after they saw it in action, they really enjoyed it — and so did we!
And take time to relax and de-stress. As hard as that may be when you have a million things you have to plan, you will feel better if you do. I didn't take nearly enough time to sit and breathe and I definitely wish I had.
What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding? That I can't do it all on my own. I have an extremely hard time asking for help and that's the one thing I regret about planning and doing so much of it myself.

Thanks! I had such a blast getting looking for hairstyles and all all the kind of girly stuff like that, and I’m not a girly-girl by any means. my mom bought me a birdcage veil to wear, and I liked my hair so much I didn’t wear it so I could show it off.
Love the bride’s look and love the groom and his party wearing those awesome t-shirts. My groom wore some silly socks and I know he wanted to make sure the photogs got them on film; I’m sure your hubby felt the same. 🙂
Aah! Sneakers and comic book heros, amazing. I keep seeing the comic book thing. I want to take pictures of that.
Reminded me of a damsel in distress waiting for her hero,
When I was doing my bridal photos, (it was at a train track) my mom wanted me to lie down and drape rope on me and do something fun like that, the problem was it was an active train track and we were constantly running off the track, out of the way.
Love the look of this wedding – how did you make the flowers as they are similar to something i am trying to create (with mixed success) for my special day x
They’re pretty simple to make, just really time consuming. I made so many it just evolved into a hobby. I even sell them here and there.

Thank ya! My great-uncle is a very conservative retired doctor. While my mom was walking me down the aisle, he told me this was the coolest wedding he’d ever been too. That made my day.
