Modern meets Renaissance at this New York wine cellar wedding

Judith and Nick had a chic New York City wedding with Renaissance-inspired outfits, Jewish cultural traditions, and a wine cellar venue. There was a little DIY, a lot of help from family and friends, and now we have a ton of great advice from the couple. Let's see what they had to say about their gorgeous New York wine cellar wedding…

We loved our venue. It was absolutely perfect and the staff at Lafayette were incredibly lovely and organized. The food was incredible — it was like having a fancy dinner out with all of our favorite people. We deliberately chose a venue where we could have the ceremony and reception in the same place.

We didn't bother with things that were not important to us (i.e. no flower decor, no wedding cake, no
wedding party). For our invitations, we ordered rubber stamps from Etsy and DIYed them. It was a really fun project and fairly budget-friendly. If I had to choose something to omit, it would be the wedding favors. Barely anyone took them and now we have a basket full of mini beer jelly jars.

A few things that helped us along the way: My beloved aunt and uncle provided most of the funds for our wedding. They were incredibly generous and wanted us to have exactly the wedding we wanted. Our families were incredibly supportive and gave us the space to create our wedding without outside judgment or pressure. We were so lucky in that the whole process from beginning to end was a joyful one.

My friends were also so helpful in the planning process — coming along to meet vendors, visit venues, pick out stationery. These tasks would have been so much more stressful without them.

Also, luck: there were several times when things just sort of fell into place (like when both my husband and I found our wedding attire). My best practical advice for my planning self: if you have the time, allow your vision to evolve. There were many times during wedding planning when I thought I had set on something and found a perfect idea. Then, after letting the idea marinate for a while, it morphed into something better. Allow yourself to go through the process of considering and rejecting ideas. The advice that I received and continued to use throughout the process was: don't sweat the details, the day will be a success no matter what if we end up married at the end of it.

Also, start with the guest list and determine the venue after. Having everyone important there is the top priority, there are beautiful venues for every size wedding. And bring a change of comfortable dancing shoes!
