Sara and Rob love Lord of the Rings and fantasy in general. They channeled that love into this Hobbit-y, outdoor party fit for getting married (or any 111th birthdays). It also fits ever-so-perfectly into this week's forest theme!
They DIYed a lot of the wedding including a Lord of the Rings-style banner, etched glasses, and letterpress invitations. Lilia Photography captured all the moments.
Home-brewed beer (including beer ceremony), an Elvis officiant, a hilarious camp wedding guide, and a cocktail hour with lawn games and merit badges -- you've... Read more

Oh that is so cool! My family are big LOTR geeks, the story was like a bedtime story to us. I love that banner so much!
Oh goodness! My Mr. Man wants an Elvin (Elvish?) wedding. He’s a big LOTR fan and this is probably just what he’s imagining! So beautiful.
Awww, how cute & well coordinated to the theme! And how appropriate that the books, in the LOTR box on the shelf are so worn, those are some well-loved books
Congratulations!
So beautiful! I love the bride’s tattoos on her back — so woodsy!
Oh wow: why do I love this wedding so much? Let me count the ways!
1. Incredible groomsmen and groom outfits!
2. That wonderful banner
3. The bride’s awesome tattoo
4. Games at the reception
5. Paper lantern gorgeousness
6. WEDDING PIE.
And so many more! One of the most beautiful weddings I have ever seen (and I’ve seen so many beautiful weddings!)
Just a few weeks ago I was trying to describe my vision of my wedding, when it finally hit me, Bilbo Baggins’ Birthday. It is so great to see a wedding that has pulled it off so beautifully and I am totally in love with the amazing banner. I hope ours can look just as good.
He knows how to throw a good party. Fireworks and a hugh-jass cake.
i just dont even know what to say.
I am stunned at THE AMAZINGNESS that is this wedding.
I think when I orignally clicked the link from facebook I thought this had the potienal to be really cheesy but its not….NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT.
It is beautiful.
Love the last picture and the first look picture
oh my
Can we even discuss that awesome (I’m thinking “family”) tree tattoo???????
I saw the tattoo and thought it was awesome, saw your comment about “family” tree, looked back at the pic and saw the names… I just cannot even express how much I love that tattoo…
Big thanks to Offbeat Bride for featuring Sara and Rob’s wedding! Ray and I think they are not just the most awesome, smartest, nicest people, but they know how to put on an amazing wedding that reflects their values and style. Thank you! -Lilia Photography
That dress looks amazing with a cardigan over it. And this wedding is almost exactly what I’d like for my wedding. Utterly gorgeous – thanks for sharing.
this is a lovely LOTR wedding! best i’ve seen. so gorgeous and casual elegance.
i love the brides tattoos too!
Thank you, everyone, for the lovely and wonderful comments. You all “got it” when many of our friends and family just chuckled. We had so much fun putting it all together, and Lilia and her husband Ray, couldn’t have been more perfect to photograph it. Thank you, Lilia Photo, and thank you Offbeat Bride— both inspirations in making this the best day ever. And yes… my tattoo is my family tree!
simple and so beautiful is this wedding! love the bride tattoo
Fantastic! Just what I’ve been waiting for, I’m getting married next year and were having a LOTR themed wedding. It’s given me some great ideas, especially for the men’s outfits as that’s one aspect we’ve been struggling with. Absolutely gorgeous wedding!
perfectly done – with sincerity
congratulations on a beautiful wedding and a wonderful marriage!
So cool!!!! I am a huge Tolkien fan and I think this hobbit-style celebration is perfect.
I MUST have those shoes! Where did you get them?
I just squealed out loud when I saw that little hobbit ring bearer. What a beautiful wedding.
Beautiful! I just love it. Subtle and elegant as well as geeky. 😉
This wedding was absolutely beautiful! Glad we weren’t the only ones who provided board games instead of dancing, and pie instead of cake 🙂
Far from it! http://offbeatwed.com/tag/pie http://offbeatwed.com/tag/board-games
Mother of the Bride here — The groom’s vest was made by a nice lady at Once Upon a Bustle. The groomsmen’s vests were made by yours truly with Folklore Pattern. The guys were nice a comfortable!
I am deeply in love with this wedding! I am also planning on having a Ring Bearer! I am also in love with your shoes- where did you get them?
I’ve been looking at Elven or LOTR inspired weddings and thus far this is my favorite. 😀 The only thing I personally would do different is add circlet tiaras for myself and bridesmaids, or possibly just myself.
Okay, I wanna redo my wedding! Loving the board game table… that’s going on my Pinterest.
Great ideas all around, but a totally non-Tolkein related detail catches my eye most: I love her tattoo!
Where did she get her dress?? I love it.
Also, I totally approve of all things cardigan, but that mustard one takes the award!
