Our Fairy Tale wedding at a glance:
The theme of our wedding was Enchanted Forest, a moody, rustic take on the Disney/Fairy Tale theme. I handmade and assembled all the decorations, bouquets, boutonnières, and table settings myself!
Check out these DIY fairy tale wedding table settings and details!
Each bouquet, boutonnière and table had a specific fairy tale.
I shopped Goodwill and other thrift stores for almost everything, and refurbished them to fit my color scheme of gold, olive green, and black.
Tell us about your fairy tale wedding ceremony:
The ceremony started with my niece and nephews ages 4-16 as flower children, followed by my sister-in-laws, who walked down the aisle to “Rainbow Connection” as performed by Weezer & Hayley Williams.
Next up the aisle was our wedding party of both of our siblings and close friends, walking to an acoustic version of “Dos Oruguitas” from the film “Encanto”; Josh and his mom followed soon after.
I wore a traditional Filipino shirt called a “Barong” and walked down the aisle to a cover of “I See the Light” from the film “Tangled.” Since my parents refused to come to my wedding (for “religious reasons,” they said), I strode the aisle with my dog Kahlua Jean Spears, a pit bull that I rescued as a stray.
The officiant was a close friend who quoted lines from Steven Universe and multiple fairy tales. We also had two close friends perform the song “Isn't It Love” (also from Steven Universe) during the ceremony.
Tell us about your fairy tale wedding reception:
We had a 360 degree photo booth which was a blast! We also had outdoor games like Jenga, Connect Four, and corn hole.
What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding?
The biggest challenge was coming to terms with my parents not attending the wedding. It wrecked me having to see them for the past two years at family gatherings while knowing they wouldn't be attending.
I was hoping they would change their minds. It's something I'm still dealing with, but ultimately my brothers and my chosen family were there to support me — that's what matters.
