Our offbeat wedding at a glance: Jeb and I are an eclectic and creative couple — he makes candles and plays spoons, while I'm a burlesque dancer and costume milliner. Our wedding was very us: a mixture of extravagance and quirkiness where all of our talented friends were included.

My dress was a beautiful vintage number I picked up from St. Vinnies in Newtown for $45. I felt like an absolute rock star in it, and even had a quick "costume change" after the ceremony, where I pinned up my train, shook out my hair, and was ready to roll for the evening.

Tell us about the ceremony:
The ceremony began with "Bloodletting" by Concrete Blonde playing as my dance mentor Sheena Miss Demeanour fan danced down the aisle, followed by our friend Danoz juggling and our seven sets of bridesmaids and groomsmen.

I was given away by my dear friend Curley, who has been a father figure to me for many years. I couldn't be more proud to walk down the aisle in matching top hats.

Strangely enough, the celebrant we got to officiate was my high school principal for a whole two days before I transferred schools again!

Tell us about the reception:
Jeb and I met at Kelly's on King in Newtown, Sydney and it's our home away from home. There was no other reception venue fitting for our crew. We had an absolute blast.

Our whole wedding was put together using my DIY skills (I made all the invites, programs, and decorations) and the talents of our friends and family. My sister made all the bouquets, the ceremony venue was a place where I was the former manager, a beautiful friend Mel made the gorgeous cake, and our friends at Kelly's helped us out with the catering. So much love and collaboration went into this wedding and I feel it's such a metaphor for our lives.

We had a couple of acts play on the night: Bannister, The Sorcerer of Sydney who ate glass on stage, Last Samurai playing tunes for the evening in between speeches, and my gift for my new husband: I got up and sang his favourite song "Walking After Midnight" by Patsy Cline.

What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding?
Your wedding day is going to be an absolute blur no matter how much you prepare for it, and that is why you hire the photographers; but you won't remember a damn thing in the coming days!

Take time out for yourself if you can. Between the ceremony and the reception, Jeb and I stopped in at home and had a nice cup of tea together before heading down King Street (yes, in our wedding outfits!) to the pub.
