Our offbeat wedding at a glance:

The Loring Pasta Bar and Varsity Theater are incredible spaces and completely fit our personalities. We had researched several venues, and although they were beautiful, we didn't get that feeling of “wow” and “comfort.” Jesse is a rock ‘n' roller to the core and I'm a pin-up babe, so the vintage theater and favorite local concert venue couldn't have been more perfect. Not only that, they were just awarded “Number 1 Place to go Number 2” for their incredible bathrooms! The venue also included everything we needed and wasn't ridiculously priced, making our experience as enjoyable and stress-free as possible.

Tell us about the ceremony:

For our ceremony we chose to “tie the knot” instead of exchange rings (we wore our rings during the entire ceremony). Here is how the knot tying ceremony went:

Today, Jesse and Lindsey have chosen to “Tie the Knot” to symbolize the two of them coming together as one. They will be making the “true lovers knot” which is the strongest there is; it will not break, and will only become stronger when under pressure. The rope itself will break before the knot comes undone.May we now have the cords? [Mother of the bride and groom then brought the cords to the front, and presented the cords to us]
These two cords represent your past, your own individual and separate lives before today. As you intertwine your pieces, you are joining your two lives into one, representing the present. The finished knot symbolizes your future, and how your love and marriage will continue to be strong despite any trials life may throw your way.

Our biggest challenge:

Our biggest challenge was planning a wedding long distance. We lived in North Carolina at the time and were planning a wedding in Minnesota. We flew home a couple of times and did some intense wedding planning in a matter of days at a time. Luckily, many vendors are great at communicating through email and phone calls to fill in the missing pieces.

My favorite moment:

A very special moment for Jesse and I was when we signed the marriage certificate before the ceremony. This was a surprise to us since we figured the ceremony itself would be when we really felt “married,” but we must both have a soft spot for legal documents. My sister also started crying as she signed it as our witness. We were also overjoyed by the amazing speeches from our loved ones during the ceremony and reception. They were the best gifts.

My funniest moment:

The funniest moment of our reception was when everyone on the dance floor created a dance circle and Jesse began doing a surprisingly superb Russian Squat dance. Many gentlemen were inspired and also decided to try. I'm amazed we didn't have any ripped pants by the end of the night.

What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding?

The most important lesson we learned from our wedding is to focus on each other and make decisions based off of what we want and is most special to us. If we were to try to please everyone else, our wedding wouldn't be nearly as meaningful to us and much more stressful. In the end, our loved ones enjoyed our decisions because they saw how happy it made us feel.
