Kids plot their grand wedding escape: a bedtime story
Once upon a time, in a land of tulle and sequins, young children donned tight suits and itchy dresses. They bumped into legs on dance floors, and found nary a puppy to pet or game to play. Vegetables were offered, kissing was happening, and the cake seemed like it would never get cut. They were at… a wedding.
Create a coloring sheet placemat for the kids
Lisa and Bill’s ’80s-themed wedding had a big neon cake, records everywhere, and mix tape favors. But one of my favorite parts was their coloring book-style placemat for the kids in attendance.
Cake-loving kids, herb centerpieces, and some bad-ass wedding parties
These mini members of Kathleen and her groom’s wedding party have needs too, guys. It was a pretty adorable way to add some levity and get the kids involved. The sign behind this ones says, “Hey Uncle Tommy, here comes your bride!” In addition to this bit of sweetness in the reader submissions, we’ve got some actual cake (with geeky toppers!), a handfasting with lovely herb centerpieces, and a fair few awesome wedding party shots.
Natasha & Jordan’s Roaring Twenties theater wedding
This retro ’20s bash was held in a theater, had three headpiece changes (my kind of girl), and eclectic music (including a ceremony serenade from the bride’s father’s band!). And get ready to get a toothache from the tutu flower girls and kids reading Shel Silverstein at the ceremony. PLUS: a 1920s-themed photo booth makes everyone era-ready!
