Our self-catered wedding weekend had a lot of moving parts. We had four self-catered meals: Welcome dinner, reception dinner, the next day brunch, and an evening picnic. Here are few things we found really helpful to organize the massive planning effort for our self-catered wedding weekend…
One part church + one part Laotian ceremony = a seriously awesome wedding day
Anna and Brad had two weddings in one day! They began by getting married in the same church Brad’s parents were wed in, and rounded out the evening with a traditional Laotian ceremony. The festivities included a customized newspaper wedding announcement, a Laotian string ceremony known as baci, and so much delicious-looking food (look at those fruit kebabs!) you could almost taste it through your screen.
Set up a secret “getaway table” for a post-ceremony private meal
Crystal and Justin had a robot-and-s’mores wedding that was heavy on fun details — including this secret getaway table the groom set up after the ceremony. We’re definitely fans of private pre-reception dinners — it looks like a sweet way to get a little alone time to bask in just-married awesomeness.

At the end of my best friends’ wedding I was exhausted and starving. Which was why, when they surprised us all with pizza, I screamed out “best wedding idea ever!” To which they responded that they had gotten the idea from me. Oh yeah!
