We recently looked at gender-neutral bridal party proposals. Now let's look at one that celebrates the girly. Is it any wonder that the bride who brought us the manga engagement party created the Sailor Moon bridesmaid gift?
In the flurry of having to pick out every little detail for my wedding, I knew I wanted to put aside some time to make a special moment of asking my friends if they would accept the position of being my bridesmaid.
As important as things like linen colors, appetizer choices, and wedding dresses are, your bridesmaids are really the last line of defense against total meltdowns on your big day. I've run interference as a bridesmaid a few times, and already know that I will DEFINITELY need some linebackers. (Sports analogies, ugh, I know, sorry!) It was really, truly, hard to just pick four girls, so after sitting on it for three months, I finally got up the nerve to ask my ladies. I wanted to say thanks-in-advance and mark the day that I asked my friends to be bridesmaids with something special, so crafting a “proposal” gift sounded just about right.
I Googled some ideas online, and combined a few together, while adding a little Sailor Moon nerdiness to the design, since, yes, my wedding will have something to do with Sailor Moon!
Here's how I made my bridesmaid boxes…
- a personal letter
- a Sailor Senshi key chain
- a scroll of “bridesmaid's duties”
- information cards
- and a little bottle of bath salts
For the lids of the boxes, I cut out some hearts from metallic star paper, and mounted them on holographic paper.
These are the new Sailor Moon keychains they just released for the 20th anniversary promotion in Japan. The tags say, “Fight for Love and Justice with me!”
The little cards pull out and explain their role, information on their dress, and an explanation of our wedding day. I added bubble scallops to these cards since I just happened to have the punch leftover from my last project.
Here are all the finished boxes:
The boxes didn't really take too long to make, and I'm happy I took the time to make them! If you have any questions, please feel free to comment!
omg. . . I seriously just had the biggest nerd-gasm EVER!!! This. Is. Awesome! <3 x 1000!!!!
These are so awesome!! I’m just now gathering ideas to make my own bridesmaids boxes, so this post is perfect timing. Might have to steal your fantastic little card idea… 😛
You’ve also got me thinking how I can make each one individual characters…we’re doing a bit of a Harry Potter theme but most of the characters are so wacky it might be insulting, haha.
Would you mind sharing any good resources you found for what to include on the information cards? I’ve started googling a bit but haven’t found too much yet. My list so far just includes dress instructions, haha.
Sure! First of all, there was a handwritten note I included not pictured here- just saying thanks for being an awesome friend, and talking about sappy stuff… then on the cards pictured I just talked about: Your Dress: explained the style of dress I want to hunt for for them. Your Role: Talked about a few duties, like keeping me calm, partying with me, that sort of thing. and Our Day: I just listed the date of the wedding, and what I’d like them to do on the morning of the wedding 🙂 Hope that helps! Harry potter themed ones sound great! You could include those little lego versions of the HP characters, or assign each bridesmaid a prop from the movie like Time Turner (to the event-oriented friend), Snitch (the game and activities planner maybe?), Marauder’s Map (person in charge of guests, printing directions?), etc 🙂
Thanks, just what I needed to know! Going to start a list right now 🙂
Brilliant idea for the Lego characters or props…my mind is reeling now!!

Too. Much. Cute!!! I’m sure your bridesmaids-to-be will swoon!
I love this so hard.
In the name of the Moon, I call this cute!
LOVE THIS SO HARD! I did a Sailor Moon-lite themed bridal shower for my friend last year.
Can you say how? I asked my girls for a SM themed bridal shower and we’ve put together some Pinterests, but we’re curious about what else we could do (I have a drink in mind called “Mercury Bubbles Smashed” with champagne and food coloring”).
I’m a long time lurker, but I had to break my silence as Sailor Moon is my favorite character of all time! I love this idea! Where did you find the heart locket with wings logo?
This is just the cutest idea ever! And what a great use of Sailor Moon- your Bridesmaids should totally be your Sailor Scouts that day!
I’m sure your ladies feel super appreciated! <3
I would love to see how this wedding turns out. My inner Sailor Moon fangirl is freaking out.
This is so adorable. All of my girls (and myself :P) are huge fans of Sailor Moon! I am going to do something like this to put into their thank you bags!!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!!!!
Love this! I’m actually sneaking in a sailor Moon theme to my wedding as well so very interested in what else you plan to do! Too bad I already confirmed my bridesmaids before we decided on SM since all my bridesmaids love it too. I just splurged on the out of print premium cell phone jacks set that are all of the wands to be their gifts and to incorporate as a charm on the bouquets. 🙂
Oh my gosh I love this idea! Xx
I love Sailor Moon as well!
And out of curiosity, which Sailor is “Mandie”? lol
That’s my name, too! ^-^
This is PERFECT. My besties and I were huge into Sailormoon when we were growing up, and we still chat about it sometimes.
