Offbeat couple: Jenny & Billy
Date and location of wedding: April 13, 2019 at the Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie, TX.
Our offbeat wedding at a glance: The theme ended up being rain. (lots of rain with rivers and puddles). It was the first time the park had to close down early.
We had a blast, though, with our friends and family. I had the choral voices sing “My Funny Valentine” by Chet Baker. I wore a wonderful dress with a purple accent and Billy wore a very simple Faire wear outfit.
When the faire was shutting down and I changed clothes, we had a sweet dance with the local pub entertainers and 2 cast members came up to shield us from the rain!
Our details involved the color purple and peacock feathers!
Tell us about the ceremony:
We had traditional vows, although we had 3 scripts to choose from! One of them was a pirate script, but it referred to me, the bride, as a wench and my husband vehemently opposed that. Our officiant told us (later) he kept getting lost during the reading because we were gushing with love!
We had to move our ceremony from the wedding garden to the pavilion – but we were totally ready with our rain boots, umbrellas and smiles! When the rain lightened up a bit, we returned to the garden to capture a few moments just for us.
Tell us about the reception:
The king and queen stopped by the reception and toasted us. The king kept getting upset because I was trying to drink my wine (too soon for him).
We also got a pike arch! Also, our reception act kept getting interrupted by thunder claps. It was HILARIOUS.
I did throw a bouquet and Billy took my garter off of my amputated/prosthetic leg as it is one of his favorite parts about me. We are one silly bunch!
What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding?
The most important thing I learned was that it’s going to turn out how it turns out no matter how much you stress about it. So chill and enjoy every moment!!!
Also, eat a big breakfast.
