So we are getting married next to a swimming pool, on a patio that we won't be able to decorate much. The thought just occurred to me that we could have something float in the pool for decoration but I can't think of what.
Any suggestions?
Love this question! I was at a backyard wedding recently where there was a big ‘ol empty pool that I couldn't help but think “this big blue watery thing is just BEGGING for something fun.” Of course, you don't HAVE to decorate your pool — water is always pretty as it is. But, if you feel like dressing up your big blue watery thing for your wedding, here are some ideas.
Flowers
Floating candles
Combine flowers and lighting
Floating pomanders
Balloons
Floating fountain
Underwater lightshow
Above-water lights
Giant silly rafts
Okay kids, what am I missing here? What are your go-to pool decorations?
Hire synchronized swimmers!!! It would be beautiful AND entertaining.
I am planning on using glowing white beach balls (with fishing line and sinkers to keep them from all ending up in one corner of the pool) and tiki torches around the perimeter.
Make glowing balloons to decorate your pool.
grab heaps of balloons in any color you want then blow them up with glow sticks inside.
They look amazing and are really cheap and easy to make.
Get in the water yourself! Get married in the water!
I have a pool at our venue (and a hot tub) and I’ve seen some trash the dress photos of a bride and her minions jumping in after the ceremony. 🙂 not sure if I want to do that to my dress yet lol also. FLOATING POMANDERS!! GLOWING BEACH BALLS! omg…
We’re doing it, jumping in the pool after our vows. And now I’m totally doing floating pomanders.
We covered the pool with a dance floor – not exactly decorative, but functional, as we needed the space.
I love the floating flowers corraled by hula hoops, though. You could do the same thing with floating candles for evening.
how?? i would love to do this. how would it be sturdy enough and not worried about falling into the pool
We hired a company that built a temporary scaffolding in the pool (they wore scuba gear and everything). They also put up a railing, since we actually covered only half the pool, so that folks wouldn’t dance over the edge and into the drink. 🙂 Definitely not a DIY project!
Hi, Im interested in covering my pool for my wedding. Where did you get it done, and how much did it go for? I heard it can be expensive.
Do a trial run first – I gave floating candles to our restaurant venue that had a pool – and they couldn’t use them because the set up in that pool kept the water constantly moving – so the candles just kept getting sort of swept away.
OR leave it empty and swim during the reception! My parents had a swimming wedding! 🙂
