Recently on Offbeat Bride, there was a post about the musings of an offbeat groom. It was so fantastic that I sent it to my own groom to read, which he finally got around to doing.
He had this morning off from work, so he was chilling in the living room when I finally dragged my sleepy self out of bed to get some coffee. He was looking intently at my laptop when I came to sit next to him on the couch.
And he was looking at Offbeat Bride.
“Ohmigod, are you looking at Offbeat Bride?”
He immediately minimized the window, made his “I'm blushing” face, and said, “Noooo!”
“Ohmigod, you are looking at Offbeat Bride!” I squealed.

“No! Well, maybe yes,” he stammered.
“That's so awesome!” I said. “That makes me happy. Isn't it an awesome site?” He reopened the internet window.
“It is pretty awesome,” he agreed. “There's some cool stuff on here. Actually I was looking at some of the dude clothes.” He showed me some posts of men's shoes and outfits. “Looks like I'm not the only guy who wants to wear more than just a plain suit.”
“You're in good company here,” I said. And I just couldn't stop smiling. It totally made my day that he was Offbeat Bride-ing, completely on his own, without me being the one who was dragging him over to look at something amazing on the screen (which I do quite often, but now methinks he might start doing it on his own!). 🙂
Rock on!
Maybe you should have an Offbeat Groom skin for dudes that is more macho than OBB. I once had a conversation with my favorite author and some male readers who said they loved her books but were embarrassed about reading them on the train or anywhere else in public. This also affected her sales of the book towards men since she can’t control the cover sometimes.
Image-conscious Offbeat Grooms can browse on their phones. The mobile version of the site is all shades of grey, and very butch.
I, myself, have the most fantastic (in my own humble opinion) offbeat groom. Craig is actually the wonderful man that introduced me to offbeat bride!
I was stressing hard over how to even go about planning a wedding that wouldn’t horrify any members of my family (who are more on the traditional side), or bore any of my friends (who are the very definition of extreme), and he sent the link for this fantastic site to my phone.
The rest of my work day was spent scouring the page for ideas, and reassurance that staying true to our weirdo selves would even be possibly on our special day.
We’ve been engaged over a month now, and he regularly buys me bridal mags, and keeps a few at his place, even sends me pics of things he really likes!
He couldn’t be more helpful, and i couldn’t be more excited to spend my life with my offbeat soon-to-be-husband!
This, I think, will be noticed more and more. The Boy in my household frequently checks out the site on his own and, much to my amazement, keeps LOTS of articles bookmarked on his laptop! I think it’s a huge compliment to the Offbeat Empire, being able to draw in even those men who rolled their eyes at the ‘girlishness’ of wedding websites. Yay Ariel and Co.!!
This is so funny. The other day I was at work when my husband had the day off, and he emails me to say that he started reading Offbeat Mama, and he read the baby signing article and actually, that sounded pretty cool and maybe we could give it a try. (He wasn’t that interested when I first told him about it.) We aren’t expecting to have children for at least another year, so that was pretty cool. I was grinning for at least half an hour.
Aww yay! That makes me happy. 🙂
