Of COURSE when a news source wants to talk about a (staged) blow job wedding photo they hit up Offbeat Bride for a quote.
And man, did Ariel give them a mouthful (hee hee)…
In response to the inevitable backlash on the internet (BuzzFeed proclaimed that “Love is canceled”), van der Klooster says he stands behind the choice. He says he never thought it would go viral, as he's seen similar images on an American website, and that he was simply honoring his clients' wishes. It was originally the mother of the bride who suggested the photo, he adds.
“It was just for fun and we had a great time while shooting it,” he tells Refinery29. “There are more things on the internet to [be] worried about. This was just fun with the couple, and they love the picture. I'm doing what the client asked on their special day.”
We spoke with a few wedding bloggers and vendors to see what they think of the photo. Some were all for it.
“I'm with the photographer on this one — couples are free to play with their expressions of sexuality however they want,” Ariel Meadow Stallings, publisher of Offbeat Bride, an inclusive website that caters to nontraditional wedding planning, tells Refinery29. “I'm a sex-positive feminist, and I'm all for this. Feminism's worst-kept secret: Some of us like giving head.”
You can read the rest of that post here. And once you finish (hee hee), let's talk about blow job wedding photos!
Are you all in? Maybe just a little (just the tip to see what it feels like)? Or did that not go down well (hee hee) with you?
Oh Megan… all the BJ puns are making me so happy!
That aside, if the couple was on board with a staged pic of a blowey, then more power to them. I honestly think that a lot of people missed the part of the article where the photographer points out that yes, it is staged. If this type of photo isn’t your thing, move along. I’m not a fan of photos where people make hearts with their hands, but I’m not out to put a ban on them.
Thaaaaaat may have been one of my favorite things I’ve ever written for Offbeat Bride. 😉
Oh man, blowjob humor and puns are two of my favorite things. That was incredibly satisfying and hit all the right spots.
My opinion? I may have done this for my wedding had a relative (awkward) not graciously gifted his talents to photograph our little wedding for free as an amazingly wedding gift. It’s fun and obviously something the couple enjoy and feel comfortable with. I would guess it may even be a stab (thrust) at all those jokes about the blowjobs stopping after marriage. But Ariel’s right about one of feminism’s most fun secrets.
You coulda been viral!
Like, mad props to the bride. No hands.
Love Ariel Meadow Stallings take on this!
I kind of want a picture like this when I get married now (probably not for public display, but just for the two of us though, because my mom and grandma would probably have a heart attack)
