Want a sweet wedding dessert, but don't want cake, cupcakes, donuts, or anything else in the dough family? Consider renting a cotton candy machine like Katie and Aaron (from iPad wedding fame) did!

The guests were big fans…

And the photo ops were cute too!
If you’re looking for a reception addition that doubles as decor and an interactive experience, it’s time to lean into the carnival vibes. Cotton candy (or fairy floss, if you’re feeling fancy) is the ultimate hit of nostalgia that keeps guests hovering around the snack table like bees to a very neon, very sugary hive.
Here is why it works for an offbeat celebration:
1. It is literally edible sculpture
Forget traditional centerpieces for a second. Watching a professional spin glowing, LED-lit cones of sugar is basically performance art. You can coordinate the colors to match your palette—whether that’s moody Victorian plums or classic radioactive pink.
10 reasons wedding donuts make the best cake substitute ever
We know cupcakes took hold of the wedding industry by force in the past decades, but we're seeing loads more wedding donuts and we VERY... Read more
2. The “Signature Cocktail” upgrade
Drop a tuft of cotton candy into a glass of champagne or a gin and tonic. It dissolves instantly, sweetening the drink and creating a dramatic color shift that looks incredible in photos.
3. It’s surprisingly diet-friendly
While it looks massive, cotton candy is mostly air. For guests who are managing sugar intake or looking for a gluten-free/vegan treat, a small puff is often a safer bet than a heavy slice of fondant-covered cake.
4. Zero cleanup (mostly)
There are no forks, no plates, and no napkins required. Guests grab a stick, wander the dance floor, and the evidence disappears. Just maybe keep it away from anyone wearing expensive lace—sticky fingers are the only real occupational hazard here.
Pro-tip: If you’re DIYing this with a rental machine, make sure you designate a “Sugar Boss” so you aren't the ones ending the night covered in a fine mist of blue raspberry dust.

I definitely considered this. Such a cute idea, especially for an afternoon outdoor wedding.
Cute! That would be awesome for a summer wedding
My parents have a cotton candy machine, from experience, we know that the creation process can be messy and loud, especially indoors. So we did up a bunch the couple of days before. The last thing I wanted was sugary spider webs all over the rented tuxes. It was a huge hit (we also had an old fashioned popcorn machine on site).
So timely, we were talking about having cotton candy at our wedding just last night!
Yay! That’s my wedding! I decided to have a cotton candy machine because I personally will eat cotton candy at every occasion possible, and this was my chance to have as much as I wanted.
So Already decided to do this one!! it’s been in the plans from the beginning!=)
GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE 🙂
