Check out Offbeat Bride member SamIAm Lego boutonnieres that she DIY'd for all the groomsman, the groom, and their dads!

The idea of incorporating LEGO minifigures into wedding attire offers a playful, creative alternative to traditional floral arrangements. These DIY boutonnieres serve as both a personal statement and a unique keepsake for the wedding party.

Materials and Design

The construction of these pieces utilizes a mix of industrial and organic elements. Each minifigure is anchored by a coiled wire base, likely made of a flexible gauge copper or floral wire. This coil allows the piece to be easily pinned or slid into a lapel buttonhole while providing structural integrity for the upright elements.

Behind the minifigure, a spray of dark greenery or tall grass creates a fan-like backdrop, mimicking the silhouette of a classic boutonniere. Thin, decorative copper wire is looped and swirled around the greenery to add texture and visual interest, bridging the gap between the plastic toy and the formal event aesthetic.

Character Customization

The strength of this concept lies in its ability to reflect the specific personalities of the groom and groomsmen:

  • The Groom: Features a historical or military figure, such as a Revolutionary War-era general, as a nod to leadership and a specific request for a distinguished look.
  • The Best Man: Uses an iconic adventurer, like Indiana Jones, complete with his signature fedora and satchel, signaling a sense of fun and partnership.
  • Groomsmen and Dads: The set includes a diverse range of characters, from ninjas and wizards to caped heroes and top-hatted figures. This allows the couple to assign specific figures that resonate with each person's hobbies or inside jokes.

Advantages of LEGO Boutonnieres

  • Customization: With thousands of LEGO minifigures available, the combinations are virtually limitless, making it easy to match any wedding color palette or specific geeky subculture.
  • Durability: Unlike real flowers, these will not wilt or brown in the heat or after a long day of celebrations.
  • Souvenirs: At the end of the night, the wedding party can keep their minifigure as a permanent memento of the event.
