There seem to be a lot of people talking about kale bouquets lately, as if it’s some sort of recent and possibly ridiculous wedding trend. Are you kidding me? We’re here to say they’ve been around for years and they’ve been awesome for years. Not only did we feature the amazing kale bouquet shown in the photo above back in early 2009, but the bouquet is freaking GORGEOUS!
Lest you think kale bouquets are only the domain of eco-brides and vegans… Lemme just point out that the bride who rocked this amazing kale bouquet back in 2009 served bacon-wrapped goat cheese-stuffed dates and grilled octopus while she danced to Punk Rock Girl with her mother!
Can we get past the idea of kale being some sort of trend and focus on the fact that, yes, it might be a veggie, but it’s beautiful as hell! I once almost adopted a head of kale, mistaking it for a pretty house plant, before I realized it was lettuce and I didn’t have a garden.

I’m vegan and live in Vermont, so it’s very fitting because I sometimes feel like I subsist solely on kale 🙂

LOL! Couldn’t get a florist to touch the idea when I was talking wedding flowers. I’d seen it here on OBB and loved it. In the end I got an amazing bouquet in the US that didn’t have kale but I was completely thrilled with it (Aussie natives YAAY!) and I gave up on a bouquet at all in Australia and carried a case instead. Kale bouquets are gorgeous and if florists and the WIC are all running around pretending to be up to speed now they were pretty slow to catch on when I was asking in 2011.
I actually thought the trend must have been over some of the looks and comments I got.
YEAH. I had a florist incorporate MINT into bouquets….smelled SUPER FUCKING GOOD.

I’ve seen pine boughs in a winter wedding bouquet. Also something that smelled really good. 🙂
I saw the vegan wedding that went viral on a few other blogs. Bully for you guys, double-downing on the kale! And whatever else us brides want to bring to topple the wedding industrial complex! Yurts for all. End comment.
I had no idea kale could be so pretty! I just know it’s super tasty. Kale mash is a staple of Dutch winter cooking. Om nom nom.

I’m going to go with the original “Fuck yeah! Kale bouquets!” for my new exclamation. I’m not waiting for an appropriate moment, either. It’s kale, man.
Is that kale, or cabbage? Not that it matters – it’s a damn lovely bouquet, and the Brassicas are all good. Ooh, can you imagine a cauliflower bouquet?
One word- BADASSERY
Wow! We had a destination wedding to where my mother-in-law lives. Anyhow, she asked what I wanted for my bouquet and I told her that I just wanted something earthy and organic. My bouquet had kale ( I thought it was cabbage, though, but it looks like what is pictured here.), eucalyptus, and some organic white flowers and white orchids wrapped in white silk ribbon. Awesome that it was on trend and we didn’t even know it! Her friend helped her make it. 🙂 Everyone loves the photos of my bouquet and I really loved how simple it was.
Wow! Who knew, that veggies could be so pretty! Love!
My Mama got remarried in January, and ditched her bouquet at the last minute, to carry a bunch of hydroponic lettuces down the aisle. She’d bought from the farmers market that morning, and thought they were too pretty not to show off.
My stepfather said in his speech that it wasn’t until she got close that he recognised it as lettuce, and that was when he realised how perfect she was.
I’ve got great photos of her nibbling on it while they were waiting for food at the reception. Very cute.
