We featured a seriously intimate and tearful Washington D.C. elopement featuring hand-painted kitty shoes, a taco dinner, and the best Facebook surprise ever. Did you miss it? Go catch up! Back? Cool, let's take a peek at one of our most favorite parts: their “i do.” wedding tattoos!
They got the idea from the TV show Whitney where the main characters, Whitney and Alex, get matching “i do.” ink on their sides (seen in this shot!).
Here's how it all went down:
After we had a chance to eat and rest our legs a little, we headed over to Fatty's Tattoo shop. The shop was very accommodating and made sure we were in a big enough room to fit all of the extra people and camera equipment. We each got the phrase “i do.” tattooed on our ribs which was inspired by the show Whitney. We had held on to the idea for years, thinking it would be difficult to put into action, but by eloping we were able to fit it in.
Raaaaad. Would you ever get some wedding tattoos? We've got whole archives of tattoos, tattooed brides, and ring tattoos.
Are you down for your own wedding tattoos or ring tattoos?
What a great idea! Perfect symbol for marriage and a permanent reminder of the vows two people who are getting married will share their whole life together. Because saying “I do” means that: I do want to be with you forever, I do want to share my life with you, I do promise to support you in each and every way I can for you to be a happy, healthy and fulfilled person. This couple is permanently inking their “I do” to life, love, the good and the bad. Awesome and lovely wedding story, thanks for sharing it 🙂
My partner and I did something slightly different when we got engaged. We both recorded each other saying something personal re our love for each other, and we then transferred the recording of soundwaves to a computer so we could have a picture representation of our voices saying those things. We then each got a tattoo of the other’s “words” on our ribcage close to our hearts. It’s very personal and discreet, but lovely. It also is the kind of tattoo that, god forbid, if we were ever to split up (or if one of us were to die really young), we would be grateful to keep forever even as our lives changed.
We’ve also considered, post-wedding, getting complimentary tattoos that may be a line from each of our favorite books or songs, or a picture of characters beloved by the other. Or maybe one of us will have the first half of a line from a song or book we both love, and the other will have the second half. There’s so many things you can do that are special 🙂
