How I made sparkly dream shoes

At a Glance

I bought my wedding shoes very early on, and soon became victim to major shoe envy. So I thought, how can I get dream shoes without spending all my money!? It turned out they were just missing some sparkle!

red shoes and swarovski crystalsI bought my wedding shoes very early on and, in my line of work, I get to meet a lot of brides, and I soon became victim to major shoe envy. So I thought, what are my dream shoes? Where can I get my dream shoes? And how can I get dream shoes without spending all my money!?

To be honest the shoes I had already bought where lovely… but just missed something. It turned out they were just missing some sparkle! So, I popped on eBay and bought a few bags of Swarovski crystals in the same awesome colour as my shoes and got sticking.

red swarovski crystals in a bag with tweezers and glueYou’ll need crystals, tweezers, and glue.

swarovski crystals glued to heelI recommend getting a few different sizes of crystals so you don’t need to be quite as strict with your sticking pattern. I used 2mm, 4mm and 6mm.

swarovski crystals being applied to heelI also got myself a cheap red felt tip pen and rubbed it over those white dusty looking super glue marks as I worked and it worked a treat.

It took a few weekends and quite a few more bags of crystals, but i did it! I made my dream shoes and saved myself a ton of money too! I heart them.

Those shoes were great to start with, but the sparkle is fabulous!

They look great – I love the idea of just doing the heel.

I rhinestone things on a regular basis, and wholeheartedly endorse Aleene’s Jewel-It glue (http://www.save-on-crafts.com/jewelit.html) – it’s wet glue, so you can work with it a little bit unlike super glue that dries up quickly.

    Love the shoes!

I did something similar to dress up a pair of $18 heels, but instead of sparkly crystals I went with spikes: http://modmischief.blogspot.com/2011/03/killer-shoe-mod.html

I did this to my wedding sandals! My wedding will be on the beach, and I bought silver flat sandals that were cute, but just not dressy enough, and the silver wasn’t quite right for my dress. So I glued clear AB faceted round beads to them and they look AMAZING… major plus: they’re coming with me on the honeymoon!!

Where did you get those shoes in the first place? They are stunning – but the sparkle add soo much!

I might try this – my desire for comfy shoes leaves me with some pretty drab options! What kind of glue did you use?

Very pretty 🙂 I did this for my converse for the wedding (and a few other pairs because why the hell not?). I made a journal post about it and on the top, there is a link to the site that helps me (basically the exact directions here) but, if you look at other posts, they did a side by side comparison of different glues. I’ve found it super useful. http://tribe.offbeatwed.com/journals/2012/07/swarovski-crystal-chucks
