Some Halloween weddings really bring the horror, but Vida and Zach reminded us that “subtle” and “spooky” are not mutually exclusive at their adorable and fun Halloween wedding! This couple fully leaned into the October vibe in the small details without it overpowering their big day. That said, they did have an EPIC costume moment during their first look (captured by Alysha Yoder Photography) – and then bookended their night with another special moment on the dance floor. This is perfect wedding inspo for all those spook-curious folks out there!
This Halloween wedding is full of subtle seasonal touches
Don’t get us wrong, we love a spooky wedding that doesn’t hold back the horror (and have had some great ones here at Offbeat Wed). But there is also something to be said for an understated Halloween theme that adds a little intrigue to the day without becoming what the day is all about – and Vida and Zach struck that balance oh so well. Their decor was full of nods to the spooky season – skeleton table centerpieces, a Frankenstein and his wife cake topper, “till death do us part” cake cutters, Zach’s skull cufflinks, and pumpkins, gourds, and mums scattered about. We especially love this couple’s Pokeball ring holder… gotta catch ‘em all? Nah, just gotta catch the right one, and these two certainly did!
The first look at this Halloween wedding took us to a galaxy far, far away
The Halloween theme may have been on the subtle side at the ceremony and reception, but it was FULL ON during this adorable first look moment between Vida and Zach! These two decided to tap into the playful side of Halloween and dress up as Princess Leia and Darth Maul for their first look before the ceremony. And, of course, they HAD to have a lightsaber duel! Seriously, the smiles on their faces are bringing us back to the Halloweens of our childhoods, dressing up and trick-or-treating with friends. But this time, the treat isn't candy… it's a lifetime with your boo (no pun intended)! Princess Leia won (obviously), but we would say the real winners are everyone who gets to see these adorable photos.
I loved photographing this couple and getting to know them so much.

This Halloween wedding made it rain on the dance floor
A lightsaber duel is perhaps the least traditional way to start a wedding day… but Vida and Zach finished the night by harkening back to traditions of their ancestors with an apron dance. What’s that, you ask? Well, it’s a tradition in many cultures – from Poland to Greece to Mexico – in which guests pay to dance with the bride and groom. The night ended with the live band bringing down the house with a polka, people paying to dance with the couple, and Zach eventually throwing his wallet into Vida’s apron and the two running out the door together. A dance with the bride? A few bucks. Getting to spend the rest of your days with the love of your life? Priceless.
We are shrieking with joy at this Halloween wedding
With all due respect to the iconic Star Wars quote, we have a good feeling about this! Why wouldn't we after such a blast of a wedding?! Congrats to Vida and Zach as they sail off into the stars together – may the force be with you on all your adventures!
