Why prom shoes make great wedding footwear

We’ve talked about how prom dresses can make great wedding gowns, but what about prom SHOES? Like prom dresses, prom shoes are often at a lower price point than anything with the word “wedding” attached, and they also tend to be a bit more playful and sparkly than the more chic stuff targeted at brides.

But you know what? I like playful, sparkly, and inexpensive (and I know some of you do too) so let’s take a look at some prom shoes and sandals that could kick ass for your wedding day. We’ve got some rainbow sparkles, lots of bows, and even a couple pairs of flip-flops…

Polkadot wedding shoes: spring 2012 edition

It’s only been a few months since my last polkadot wedding shoes post, but people: spring 2012 has been KIND to lovers of the dots.

Below, I’ve got polkadot heels and wedges, flats and booties, Oxfords and sandals.

As is increasingly the case with my shoe posts, things get weirder and weirder toward the bottom. I’mma start with some gentler black and white options, some nice tan dots for those of you who don’t want to blind your guests…but we’re going to close with dot/floral mixes, platforms with polkadots and skulls, and other spotty freakery.

Purple wedding shoes are purple

Inspired by these purple-strapped beauties, I decided to dive head-first into Zappos in search of other purple shoes for you brides who are going the royal-hued route for your wedding feet. I’ve got heels, wedges, a couple boots, and lots of flats.

Rocket Dog wedding shoes

Every once and a while I like to dive down into one specific shoe brand to get a feel for how they might fit for all sorts of different brides. This week, it’s Rocket Dog shoes. Many of their styles are on the more casual end of the spectrum, perfect for beach brides or backyard weddings, but they’ve got a few heels that still have that high-style boomPOW for a more formal affair.

Of course, because it’s me, there are several rainbow-striped shoes involved… but I think what y’all are going to like best is that NONE of these shoes is over $60.

WHAT ABOUT FLATS!?

It almost seems like it’s a required response: I’ll do a shoe post about something (wedges, platforms, boots, whatever) and the response will be “WHAT ABOUT FLATS!?”

Yes. What about flats?

We’ve got pages and pages of posts about wedding flats, but based on comments I receive, they’re clearly the wedding shoe that seems to get the least love. EVERYONE WANTS MORE FLATS.

So this week: FLATS!

Wild wedges: for when you want a heel, but not a spike

For those of us who have issues walking in heels (and don’t be fooled: I love to LOOK at insane heels, but god knows I can’t walk in them!) wedges are the perfect solution. You get a little elevation, but with the advantage of a more solid sole — and often the assistance of a little platform.

Today I’m wrastling up a few of my favorite wedges. These run the gamut from the more casual, retro end of the spectrum (beach wedding? adorbz!) all the way to glitter-crusted neon space booties for your sci-fi midnight adventure wedding. Oh, and one pair of fuzzy mice.
