Åsa and Nina got married at the VikingaTider in Löddeköpinge, in the south of Sweden. It's an archaeological open-air museum focusing on Vikings and the early Middle Ages. It was a fantasy viking wedding theme(!) and they even made their own dresses! Åsa (in purple) has been into the viking life for some years now and Nina (in pink) joined in the interest a few years ago.
Their friend and officiant, Johanna Stjerndahl, designed their rings in silver, along with a surprise piece of jewelry that Nina gave to Åsa. The ceremony had singing and circle dancing and all-around good times for all guests and vikings alike.
Here's a little more from the couple…
The guests got invited to what they thought was a dual birthday party. The wedding was a surprise for all except our parents. But most of the guests figured out what was about to happen.
The weather reports kept giving us contradictory information and we kept our fingers crossed for no rain. Most of the activities were supposed to take place outside: welcome drinks, surprise ceremony, a fun quiz, and the possibility to try different viking games. But when the rain was still pouring down 30 minutes before the guests were arriving, we had to quickly change the plans. We ended up having the ceremony under a temporary canvas roof. But everybody thought it was planned that way and didn't notice that we had changed everything in a panic just before.
The party was held in the viking village's large longhouse, which we filled to the last seat. The tables in there are unfortunately very narrow and didn't give us much room for decorations. We choose long branches of ivy. The place cards were written in runes and we handed out a program and fun information about all the guests.
