Offbeat Couple: Alli (they/them) and Raine (he/him)
Date & Location: 6/04/2022, The Carriage House at the Woman's Club of Englewood, Englewood, NJ
Behold Alli and Raine's celestial wedding! Stars, space, and astrology are all symbolic to them, and they made sure to include all of these in their wedding décor. The reception room had balloons, streamers, and table décor reflecting the theme. The seating chart was astrology based, and each table had a different sign… so if you were a Scorpio, you sat at the Scorpio table!
Beyond having the theme be space-related, they had the entire day set up to be part of a performance or a play, with playbills to disperse to the “audience” with a timeline during their ceremony. Their cake was decorated to match the theme and featured them with a moon and their cats.
Something that I thought was really special that I haven't seen at other weddings before: pronoun stickers at the ceremony entrance, with a sign that read “We know it's impossible to tell someone's pronouns without saying it and want to avoid the awkwardness of having to ask so we've made it super easy! Simply stick the sticker somewhere other guests can see, and check for a sticker before talking to/about someone you don't know.“
They had a ring-warming station with a sign: “Please take a moment to warm our wedding rings with your love & blessings. When we exchange these rings in our ceremony, they will not only carry the promises we make each other, but also the love and support of each of you.” The ring box was inscribed with “Written In The Stars“. Each guest came up and touched the rings and transferred their warm wishes/energy onto the rings.
Their ring person was dressed as an astronaut wearing a helmet. Everyone else in the wedding wore what they wanted to wear instead of sticking to traditional matching outfits, and the officiant had a space-patterned dress. The dinner was diner food with a custom menu.
Alli and Raine walked down the aisle together instead of having someone else walk them down. Their wedding arch was completely DIY'd with stars and streamers and was assembled by their closest friends/family, which I think made it really special. Their friends did their makeup, set up the altar, decorated for the ceremony, married them, and more.
Raine wore gold and Alli wore silver, but their wedding attire was almost a perfect mirror of each other. The two had a sparkler exit, which read as ~FIN~ on the playbill, to close out the night.
There wasn't a dry eye amongst guests that day, everybody was in total awe of them. Alli and Raine have something absolutely magical and out of this world together. It only makes sense that they have the theme to match it.
They found me through a photograph I posted with a double exposure of stars and they took it as a sign to reach out. They hadn't come across another photographer requesting pronouns on their contact form until they saw mine. They both burst into tears, which made me cry during our initial phone call. They are both two of the most genuine souls I have ever met and all they do is spread kindness. The love they have for each other is the purest form and I will forever consider it an honor.
