Next time you walk through your neighborhood park, take a look around… could you imagine saying “I do” to your beloved there? That’s exactly what Olivia and Jim did as they prepared for their big day, and they pulled it off big time (our friends at Dutcher Photography got photos to prove it)!
This casual and rustic outdoor wedding skipped the frills and instead opted to make the small details go a long way to transform a corner of their local park into a magical secret garden ceremony and the perfect afternoon picnic reception. And just wait until you see what the bride and groom brought to share… you’re going to wish you got an invite!
This rustic outdoor wedding venue looked like a secret garden
Olivia and Jim didn’t have to go far from home to make their big day feel special. Their wedding took place in a park just minutes from their house – but that didn’t mean it wasn’t just as enchanting as a destination wedding. Although it was a public park, there was plenty of privacy. The ceremony took place in a spot that was tucked away, giving both the couple and their guests the feeling of being in a secret garden. And the flowers growing in the park provided a gorgeous background for photos (without having to pay for them!).
We love that Olivia and Jim can visit this spot and reminisce about their wedding day whenever they pop out for a little walk!
This rustic wedding turned a local park shelter into a dreamy destination
On a typical day, a shelter at a local park is a place people pass through on their way to a picnic or use to seek refuge from an unexpected rainstorm. But on this day, it became the destination as Olivia and Jim celebrated their love for one another with their friends and family. Olivia and Jim turned this humble building into an inviting and colorful space – and it was all in the small details. From the pillows and quilts to the rustic bar cart to the delicate flowers, this park shelter felt like an extra elevated picnic (the kind you bring the good champagne to… someone pop the bubbly!). We love how Olivia and Jim’s aesthetic reflected their personalities – down to earth, and also down to enjoy the simple things in life.
I LOVE what they did to elevate the park shelter they had their reception in, with the pillows and quilts and flowers – it was cozy and wonderful!

This rustic outdoor wedding was serving…pizza!
Special delivery for the bride and groom (and all their guests)! Olivia and Jim arranged for a mobile pizza oven and an ice cream cart to provide the food at their reception. Now THAT’S our kind of picnic! Pizzas were made to order for their guests, so everyone could have something they enjoyed. And of course we love a good wedding cake here at Offbeat Wed, but we’d take ice cream over cake any day of the week. And in case their guests got another sugar craving later, Olivia and Jim sent them all home with a box of cookies that told pieces of their story as a couple. Talk about a sweet gesture!
We love how this couple gave their guests something special while supporting local food businesses – and also staying true to the down-to-earth feeling of their whole day.
We are channeling this rustic outdoor wedding for our next park hang
The simple reigned supreme at Olivia and Jim’s wedding, and we loved it! No fuss, no frills – just a few small but intentional details – and the day was all the more special for it. We’re jumping for joy right alongside Jim for this incredible wedding – and this even more incredible couple! Best wishes, Olivia and Jim, as you begin this next chapter together!
