My embroidered table banner placemats

At a Glance

Tribesmaid jhall16 had a stroke of genius idea when it comes to head table heraldry: banners that double as place mats!? You betcha. And they look awesome.

P7301200I am making two banners to go over the table in front of my place and my partner’s. The one that goes in front of my partner’s seat is done. Now, I’m in the process of working on a second one with a doe instead of a stag for myself. When finished, the banners will go over the front of the head table in front of our places so that our guests can see them.

For you stitching enthusiasts, here’s how I’m making them:

The deer pattern is by Jenny Hart at Sublime Stitching (it is on the woodland creatures transfer set). I scanned the deer and blew it up to about 8×10 and then printed it out and transferred it with white carbon paper also from Sublime Stitching. The threads I used were “Wexford Blue” and “True White” from DMC and “Metallic Silver” from Sublime Stitching.

P7301191The border was done without a pattern — I just made it up as I went along, using the doodles in the margins of my high school note books as inspiration.

P7301190I used a combination of back stitch and stem stitch for most of the deer and border. I used blanket stitch to do the iris of the eye.

I plan on making these into pillow shams after the wedding!

That is a really cool idea! Table runners get lost at the end of the table, but these are decor for the front of the table. Love!

Thanks! I just started on the second one last night (I needed a break after all that!)

I just have to ask–James and Lily Potter inspired? (In case anyone’s confused–Harry’s and Snape’s Patronuses are a stag and a doe, respectively, representing James and Lily, also respectively.)

Nope, I didn’t even think of that! My fiance has never read the books, even though I love them. We both enjoy hiking and he makes things out of antler. The stag and doe just kind of became part of the theme. His ring has a stag on it and the buttons on his jacket are made out of antler. When we found deer cake toppers I knew this was the pattern I wanted to use.

That’s a great idea, especially if you want to carry a theme into it a la Harry Potter or Game of Thrones:D
