Our offbeat wedding at a glance:

We had a Jurassic Park theme complete with dancing dinosaurs and a Jurassic Park Explorer. We wanted to put an elegant classy twist on something very quirky.

Tell us about the ceremony:

We all walked down the aisle to the Piano Guys version of the Jurassic Park theme song. My gram raised me so it was a complete no-brainer that she would be the one to walk me down the aisle. My best guy friend since kindergarten stood up as my "Man of Honor" and his mom (our first grade teacher) read "A Lovely Love Story" during the ceremony.

Billy is Irish so it was very important to him to incorporate Irish traditions. We had a Traditional Celtic handfasting and a traditional Irish Prayer read.

Tell us about your reception:

Dinner consisted of stations: A taco/fajita station with chips, salsa, and guac, slider station with three kinds of sliders with mac'n' cheese and a side of onion strings, and a salad/bread station with caprese salad, strawberry goat cheese arugula salad, and coleslaw. We had a donut wall Billy made to look like the park gates at Jurassic park, adorned with Krispy Kremes, and a selection of cupcakes and kringle.

During the reception, our officiant came in dressed as a t-rex and cut a rug.

What was your most important lesson learned?

I think our biggest challenge was remembering it was OUR DAY. I spent so much time and stressed so much trying to make sure everyone else was happy. The best thing we did the whole planning process was throw that out the window and just doing what made us happy. We also chose our vendors based on who was excited for our theme and who gave us strange looks when we mentioned it.

Comments on A Jurassic Park wedding with a real park vehicle and dino attack

  1. I think it’s one of the new, different and creative weddings. Hats-off to the creativity. I like the reception arrangements, especially dancing dinosaurs.

  2. These ads popping up over photos is becoming invasive. I had the same ad pop up over 4 photos and had to watch the whole thing. I understand ad revenue is a thing, but it’s getting to a point where I no longer want to visit this site.

    • Nikita, I totally hear you! I emailed GumGum (the ad network that serves up those in-image ads) yesterday about this issue, and will hopefully have it resolved soon. One or two ads is ok, but it’s feeling totally invasive.
