We love this great concept from Sarah & Bryan's nerdy barn bash wedding:
We've always had a particular fondness for vintage postcards, so we decided to use vintage Oregon postcards instead of a traditional guestbook. We invited our guests to fill them out and put them in the mailbox on the table or they could save them to surprise us in the mail later.
This begs the question: what are y'all using for guestbooks anyway? And have you checked out our archive of offbeat guestbook ideas?
We used vintage postcards for our guest book. We had a “casablanca” inspired wedding and I went on Zazzle and got a bunch of copies of old art deco travel postcards from Middle Eastern countries. We fanned them out on a table and had guests add them to our vintage postcard book. It was FUN, cheap, and turned out great. Our March 27, 2011 wedding was featured on offbeat bride if anyone is interested in checking it out.
We did the same. The postcards weren’t technically vintage but they had vintage black & white travel photos. We had a suitcase for people to put them in (along with any cards/gifts) and it turned out to be such a fun and memorable couple of hours reading through them all on the car ride home from our destination wedding a couple of days later. I’m going to put them in a photo album so we can flick through easily in years to come.
That’s what I’m planning to do, but with comic books inspired postcards.
Yay! Like this you mean? http://offbeatwed.com/2012/12/have-your-guests-sign-postcards-as-your-guest-book
Cool! We’re using vintage postcards of our town for our table cards. All the pictures are from the late 1800s through 1930s.
This is such a fun idea! I did postcards that were blank on the back for RSVPs with a small note asking people to write us a note or draw us a picture. It has made it so much more fun to get them in the mail.
We’re using a comic book for our guest book. We’re big fans of the X-men and found a cheap copy of the one where Jean Grey and Cyclops get married. We figured it was appropriate since the text bubble reads “At Last…” and we just celebrated our 7 year anniversary.
Haha! I totally just did this for my wedding two days after this was posted! Oh my gosh, hilarious. ;P
I bought antique postcards from the US and UK off eBay and set them out in a spray painted cardboard jewelry box, borrowed a silver dish from my mom to put the pens and explanation sign on, and had a second spray painted box for the finished cards to be dropped into! It worked well! Not everyone got it, but we ended up with about 30 cards and love all of the advice and well-wishes we were given!
