Peony & Lace by Felicity Westmacott
As a professional bespoke wedding dressmaker I mostly make unique, couture wedding dresses for brides who visit my studio in Surrey, UK. But I also indulge myself making flights of fancy dresses for styled photoshoots. I love the dresses I make like they are my babies but like children you have to set them free so I list them on Etsy at discounted prices to help them find their ‘wear me out' owner. Affordable couture, which one calls to you?
Here on Offbeat Bride, I'm best known for the exquisite, one of a kind wedding dress I made by as a tribute to Sarah's beautiful ball dress in the fantasy film “Labyrinth.” It is not a copy of the dress from the film but a modern interpretation that perfectly captures the original's dreamy beauty while being completely on-trend, so if someone is not a fan of the 1980's film… they'll still love this dress!
I make many other kinds of gowns though, and also sell other things… over the years I have hoarded vintage wedding dresses and accessories, tiaras, jewellery, fabrics, trims and embellishments. Silk, lace, satin and vintage prints by the metre or as bags of scraps for crafty fun. ‘Toiles', calico practice runs of real wedding dresses ripe for use as art projects or as dress patterns for your own creations. If it's time to make some space lucky Etsy buyers get to rummage through my boxes and drawers to find pretty bargains.
How I cater to offbeat weddings
My prices are bargain-basement low to help me make space in my workroom. I am happy to take commissions for new, custom items but the prices will reflect that they are being created specially from scratch, not as a sale item like these listed in my shop.
"The dress is breathtakingly beautiful and wonderfully made. I can’t even begin to explain the emotions I felt when I received my dress. Felicity was amazing to work with and it’s all thanks to her I will now be able to walk down the aisle in the dress of my dreams." -Chelsea
