The Offbeat Bride: Alison, Clerk
Her offbeat partner: Ryan, Store Manager
Date and location of wedding: Texas, United States — November 1, 2014
Our offbeat wedding at a glance: Our wedding was a costume party! We are both big Batman and pop culture comic/video game lovers and didn't really feel like a traditional wedding fit us. Thus, our fandom favorites of cosplay and superheroes collided. We knew our friends and most of our family would be up for a costume wedding since they are great sports.
Our wedding party really took it to the next level. All of our great friends pieced together their own costumes, most making them themselves. They were beyond perfect. We cannot thank them enough for making it so amazing. Additionally, every single guest dressed up. That is what we wanted the most, for everyone to celebrate with us.
Quiktrip, the convenience store company we work for, catered the event. This worked out wonderfully, seeing as the majority of our guests worked for QT, including three of our sisters.
We had Metallica's “Nothing Else Matters” as our wedding song, Guns N' Roses' “Sweet Child of Mine” for the father/daughter dance, and The Beatles' “Let It Be” for the mother/son dance.
Tell us about the ceremony:
We started our ceremony off with Ryan and our dog, Bluemoon, who had a GoPro camera on her back, walking down the aisle. We then decided to have the Maid of Honour and Best Man go next, and so on and so forth. We all walked down to the first Batman Movie theme score.
Jarrod, our officiant/Batman, had written his own speech and had gotten our guests into the festive mood. He also quoted The Beatles' “All you need is Love.” We also wrote our own vows, both unseen or spoken of to each other. We actually both ended up with poems, “I Will Always,” and “The Boy with the Batman Tattoo.”
Our biggest challenge:
The biggest challenge we faced was really pulling everything together at the end. We had done all the work ourselves, and by that I mean our family and friends donated a lot of time and effort for our wedding. There was no way we could have pulled this off without them. They did more amazing work then we could have even imagined.
My funniest moment:
The funniest moment happened in the middle of the ceremony. The microphone kept cutting out during our officiant's speech. We had rented the equipment and set it up ourselves, and we had never done that before. Every time it would cut out, Ryan would grab it from Batman, turn it over, tap it, and it would work again. Our friend Steve told us that it “looked like the Joker was playing a joke on Batman.”
What was the most important lesson you learned from your wedding?
ALWAYS CHECK YOUR BATTERIES. Also, trust those helping in your wedding. You will need them. We decided that anything not done the day before the wedding was out, and not to worry about it. That helped. Once Saturday came around, we just went with the day and didn't try to fight anything along the way.

Enough talk — show me the wedding inspo!
“It looked like the Joker was playing a joke on Batman,” what a cute positive spin on technical difficulties!
I was already 100% in love with your wedding, and then I saw Batman officiating. That is it. I am dead.
This. Is. Awesome!!! All the costumes and the Joke playing a joke on Batman. So much love! Congratulations you two!

This wedding is AMAZEBALLS!!!! Looks like so much fun. Congratulations
Omg, as a tribesmaid, THANK YOU SO MUCH. This is everything I want from my wedding (we are doing Borderlands but same theory) and I keep getting super freaked out and self conscious about having a dress-up and totally DIY wedding. You’ve soothed my nerves quite a bit! You’re like my wedding mentors slash heroes, even if you were villains 😉 so much <3
