Rockabilly meets Doo-Wop meets vintage cars at this retro wedding

Rockabilly meets Doo-Wop meets vintage cars at this retro wedding

I have always loved and been fascinated with the 1950s especially the pin-ups, music, swing dancing, and custom hot rods, so Garrett and I decided to have a rockabilly/Doo-Wop-themed wedding that also incorporated our love for cars.

The ceremony site was decorated with the black/red/white rockabilly theme. To keep the guests thinking this would be a traditional wedding, the DJ played traditional classical music while the guests were taking their seats. I wanted my wedding to have a classic old Hollywood style. Since we are both bibliophiles who bonded over a love of the stars and Neil Gaiman, we picked Stardust as our inspiration. There wasn't a real theme for the wedding, other than "Let's Duerr It," based on our last name. It was our URL, hashtag, and was prominently displayed in large balloons on stage. One friend had made the comment that she felt like she was at a prom, "in the best possible way." We got married at an old drive-in hot dog stand called Superdawg, where we had one of our first dates. Our friends Kate and Pete chauffeured us in their '61 Lincoln Continental and the officiant was our friend Louie. The guest list was about 15 people (plus our dog, Stanley) and the ceremony lasted about five minutes.

Beaches, bunnies, & a first performance at this youth hostel wedding in England

Nicola & Lewis’ laid-back beach wedding quite literally rocked with live music, their pet bunny, hot chocolate and marshmallows, fire pits, and so much more. The setting was the Yorkshire coastline which somehow transported us to what looked like a tropical location but was actually a destination wedding at the Boggle Hole, just south of Whitby in England.

Nicola and Lewis got married on the beach in front of their friends and family, they played a song together in place of a first dance, before heading to their reception at the pirate-themed youth hostel, the Boggle Hole YHA.
