Sonya & Mark’s cinematic retro theater wedding
This pair needed a very specific venue, and a trip to their favorite movie theater gave them the epiphony they needed: a wedding at the movie theater with a retro Hollywood theme! Queue the popcorn and champagne, James Bond-looking groom, victory rolled-ladies, and movie trailer ceremony preview. Just don’t score them too low for the predictable ending (happily ever after, naturally).
A retro red and teal wedding that fits us like a glove
Sometimes we see a wedding and we just know it’s a classic match for Offbeat Bride in the best ways possible. That’s you, Kaelen and Nathan, with your handfasting, red and teal color scheme, monster card box, funky mustache props, and sweet blue dress and shrug (that Kaelen made herself!).
A 1930s garden party that you won’t believe took place in 2013
Ashley and Robert had that idea that they’d plan an authentic 1930s-styled garden party. The nail’s head was hit so hard, the nail died. The affair was held at a 1907 Tudor mansion in Highland Park, CA, with a 1935 Packard sedan to deliver the bride. The groom and groomsmen wore 1930s-era morning attire with top hats, while the bridesmaids were clad in couture organza gowns created by Ashley’s good friend and bridesmaid, Theresa Laquey. The bride’s out-of-this-universe dress is actual 1930s vintage from eBay. To top it all off, the catering was based on actual recipes from a 1930s cookbook. Everything about this makes me want to blow my wig… blink my peepers… be dizzy with these dames… and basically blurt out a lot of 1930s slang.
Kimberly & Steve’s ’50s retro rockabilly wedding
A 1950s drive-in, a vintage candy buffet, Pink Ladies and T-Birds, and even a little heavy metal — why, it must be greased lighting! And you do not want to miss the major rumble that happened at the ceremony. Let’s just say that it included “the man, the myth, and the legend” and the “baddest Catholic school teacher ever.”
