This is the story of how my boyfriend proposed at the end of a surprise, Seattle-wide, Doctor Who scavenger hunt proposal. He spent months preparing for this, and his efforts really paid off! Weeks earlier, he’d told me to block out that day in my calendar for a surprise. I’m like a cat (curiosity “kills” me), so when the day finally arrived, I was eager to know what his plans were. Little did I know, they were EPIC.

This Harry Potter photo shoot came about because Tiffany and Brett wanted to get the wedding photos they never got when they were married. Tiffany is a huge Potterphile (as so many of you are!), so a Harry Potter theme was a no-brainer. You’ll most definitely want to see the stationery adorned with the Hogwarts crest and the Howarts-themed cake (a serious work of art!). But mostly it’s just drop-dead gorgeous and eye candy for days. After nearly a decade together, Judy and Phil tied the knot at their alma mater of St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The two originally couldn’t decide on a theme, but man did they pick a good one in the end. They love a ton of fantasy/science fiction franchises, so it only made sense to call upon the powers of The One Ring, The Force, and The Ministry of Magic to get the job done. Just wait until you see their fandom-themed centerpieces and references to pop culture touchstones everywhere. Oh, and when elf ears are involved, I’m so in. Let’s see all the magic unfold…

We had a geek adventure wedding theme, incorporating a few of our favorite things in every way we could (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, The Elder Scrolls, Dungeons & Dragons, The Princess Bride, Game of Thrones, Firefly, New World Magischola, and more). We encouraged everyone to come in costume (and most did! With props!), and we made wands as favors, as well as rheoscopic fluid potion bottles, dragon eggs, and all of the food (from our fandoms).

J.R.R. Tolkien had a great love with his wife, Edith. She’s the inspiration for a character in The Silmarillion and he’s buried next to her under a single gravestone inscribed with the names Beren and Luthien.
