geeky weddings

Gamers, comic book nerds, pop-culture enthusiasts, and geeks of all kinds: Offbeat Wed is the original home of nerdy weddings going way back to 2006. We’ve got geeky wedding ideas for all the fandoms: Doctor Who weddings, Star Wars weddings, Lord of the Rings weddings, Harry Potter weddings, Game of Thrones weddings, and so many more…

Where do I even begin with all of these killer pop culture references in this geeky swords and wands wedding? The groom, Jon, wore 10th Doctor-inspired suit and accessories, there were Sword Art Online swords, Harry Potter wands, and gorgeous wings (made my a Victoria’s Secret wing creator!).

But really, the stand-out here is Kate’s majestic Mak Tumang gown that steals the show.

Ladies of the Lake: Nimue marries Morgan Le Fay in this Arthurian wedding shoot

We’ve definitely seen grooms with swords cutting cakes at weddings (note: do NOT put the sword back in the scabbard with cake on it. You’ll thank yourself later). But we hadn’t noticed quite as many women with swords (though we have seen a couple!).

The team who crafted this inspiration shoot drew upon the myth of the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian legend, but with a twist: the Lady marries Morgan Le Fay!

How Padme and Anakin rocked their engagement photos

This couple rocked a stellar Star Wars cosplay shoot with Padme and Anakin in a Tatooine-like landscape. It was taken by JM Photography who were compelled to keep it under wraps until their Baywood Golf & Country Club wedding in Arcata, California. Geeky surprises are the best kind!

The artwork at this multicultural League of Legends wedding will blow your mind

Our theme was our favorite video game, League of Legends. We wanted to incorporate our love of the game but still make our non-gamer guests comfortable. Even in the early stages of planning, we applied this theme.

Our save-the-dates, invites, and even our engagement photos included handmade illustrations made by me with some kind of League of Legends Easter egg.

We are nerding out over these custom toasting flutes, glasses, and geektastic gifts

We got super lucky and stumbled upon Glass Cannons via this wedding we featured. I basically went googly-eyed when I spied the etched glasses paying homage to their favorite fandoms (read: Magic the Gathering!).

They’ve got toasting flutes, shot glasses, and quirky drinkware galore. And if you have an idea in mind for glasses that mach your wedding theme, they’ll absolutely do a custom set for you…

Travel through Tatooine, Middle Earth, Westeros & more at this pop culture travel-themed wedding (with April Fools pranks!)

Our geekdom runs deep and we're known to throw themed parties, so settling on a single fandom felt forced for an event of this magnitude. Instead, we decided to put a little bit of everything we love together for a truly unique experience. For a while, though, nothing fit together. Plus, we were annoyed by traditions that felt were “expected.” So, we identified what really mattered: bringing the people we love together and staying true to ourselves.

Then something clicked for our theme: inspired by a wall in our home covered in fictional maps. We chose a Pop Culture Travel theme!
