Who cares who leads? Non-gendered first dance ideas for all
My brother-in-law — who has never danced himself — once told me that it is only natural in dancing that the man leads and the woman follows. Having taught many partner dance classes, from Swing to French Folk, I can tell you that that is completely and utterly untrue. Of course there is nothing wrong with the “man leads, woman follows shuffle”-type first dance, but not every wedding involves one man and one woman. And even for those who do, there are many options beyond the traditional first dance…
Have your first dance right at the altar
Sandra-Lee and Conrad’s take on a first dance struck us as genius. Right after the ceremony, right at the altar, they had their big smooch and went right into a super romantic first dance.
11 modern waltzes for your first dance
The first dance is something I’m particularly excited about, but here is the issue — the groom only knows how to waltz in 3/4 time. So here’s the deal… I’d like to know your favorite modern songs in 3/4 time, ie, Waltzin’ Songs. My groom and I would like something sweet and peppy, and not too “classic.” Got any ideas?
Cindy & Sam’s geeky bibliophile wedding
We couldn’t resist mentioning the book arch in this gorgeous wedding in recent Monday Montage, and now Cindy’s giving us the whole bibliography. Folded paper and piles of books abound from aisle decor to bouquets, and from a custom cardbox to their signature arch — but you’re also going to love all the subtle nods to geekery. Book-lovers, get our your library cards and check out all the love!
A colorful gay Mexican Dia de los Muertos wedding
This wedding explodes with color, papel picado, and Dia de los Muertos imagery. But seriously… the best parts are the choreographed ceremony entrance and the amazing choreographed hip hop first dance (that we teased last week!). Don’t fret, because there are videos for both that you don’t want to miss!
A choreographed gay first dance
We’ll be featuring Ruben and Joaquin’s wedding next week, but we couldn’t wait to show you their amazingly fun hip hop first dance. They start out with Marvin Gaye’s “You’re All I Need to Get By,” but transitioned into the Mary J. Blige and Method Man version! It’s too cute to miss.
