A reverend’s thoughts on purity culture and boudoir photos
As a reverend who officiates a lot of weddings, I can say with certainty that purity culture is alive and well in conservative Christian circles… and that doing boudoir photography is one way I’ve chosen to push back.
Think boudoir shoots aren’t right for you? Then you’ve never seen radically inclusive boudoir
One thing that attracted me to the Offbeat Empire way back in the day was its focus on representation: through couples of color, those all along the gender spectrum, all types of LGBTQ+ couples and polyamorous relationships, all body sizes, all ages, and more. So when I saw that Hella Positive Pinup was one of our new partners, I gave an out-loud “fuck yes” while looking at the photos.

Couples boudoir? Yes it’s a Thing, and it’s badass
Boudoir photos have been around for ages. We’re all familiar with the photo of the woman, scantily clad, face turned over her shoulder with the signature lip bite.
Before you think me, or any other couples boudoir photographer for that matter, will force you to don some lacy lingerie for your couples boudoir shoot, let’s crumple that thought up and torch it — unless you want to wear lacy lingerie, then by all means, we can turn the heat up in our studio so you don’t get cold. But I’ll be honest: couples boudoir is a little different from regular boudoir.
