Our offbeat wedding at a glance:
The best thing about our wedding day is something that started almost two years before and six months before I even proposed. I said that if we got married, we'd have mac and cheese for dinner. Then Steph added that everyone would be in costume, it’d be a big party, and it’d be creepy as hell. She also wanted pizza along with that mac and cheese.
When I did propose, I chose to include something that spoke to our interests, our hobbies, and our relationship: a zombie survival kit and a pledge that, should one ever happen, she would not have to go through it alone.
For the wedding, we told people to come in costume and served our favorite foods: pizza, hot dogs, burgers, tacos, and mac and cheese. With a superhero Halloween wedding theme, we decorated with zombified heads, severed limbs, and demon dogs.
We gave our bridesmaids origami bouquets made from The Walking Dead comic book pages to match their zombie faced shoes. We gave our groomsmen origami boutonnieres made from superhero comics to match their superhero Chuck Taylor shoes.
The day after, we shot up the wedding dress with a day of paintballing and rolling around in the mud. And it was a helluva party.
Tell us about the ceremony:
We had a friend dress up as an undead pope and marry us to the script of The Princess Bride “mawwiage” scene.
I walked down the aisle to the 21st Century Fox theme and Steph walked down the aisle to “Call of the Zombie” and “Living Dead Girl” by White Zombie.
We did feature a reading from the book of Bob…Marley, that is. Here's an excerpt:
Colors seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.
My favorite moment:
Yes, the theme was fun. The costumes were awesome. The food was delicious. The venue was creepy. The groom's cousin did a STUPIDLY awesome job with our cake (half creepy and bloody, the other half nerdy and superheroey). Watching the groom's sister and a mutual friend share the microphone while rapping along to “Good Vibrations” was classic. But really, as long as we both said “I do,” it would have been the most meaningful day of both of our lives.

What an amazing wedding! It blows my mind! Everyone looks like they’re having so much fun. Wonderful!
This wedding looks awesome! I was just wondering if any one from the wedding knew where the bride got her veil? It’s exactly the kind of thing I was looking for for my wedding that I can’t seem to find. Any help would be appreciated 🙂 Thanks!
Hmm, hard to say what it would be called, but I’d try searching for “birdcage veil” or “updo veil” – the fine netting is normally what birdcage ones are made of, you might be able to find something similar.
This is the bride here! The white birdcage veil was from David’s Bridal. The fascinator was a separate piece custom made by Maggpieseye. https://www.etsy.com/shop/maggpieseye. It was super reasonable!!
