Our offbeat wedding at a glance:
Christopher and I have known each other since elementary school. We wanted a simple, afternoon wedding in the mountains where we grew up. We let the setting speak for itself and just wanted to focus on being with our loved ones.
Tell us about the ceremony:
We had an organist play throughout the ceremony. For my entrance, mine and Christopher's high school band director accompanied the organ on his trumpet. A friend of ours performed the ceremony, which consisted of Quranic readings and a reading from Christopher's father. My mother walked me down the aisle.
Tell us about your reception:
Our favors were jars of homemade hot chocolate mix (which took about 20 man hours on my part!). I made our wedding cakes, a buffet of four different flavors. Our first dance was "Everlasting Light" by The Black Keys.
What was your most important lesson learned?
My biggest challenge was deciding whether or not I wanted to undertake making our wedding cakes. At first, I decided not to, but ultimately changed my mind when I thought about how disappointed I'd be if I didn't at least try. So, I had a Plan B (a doughnut place that only needed 24 hours notice) and went for it. I was really proud of myself.
