The Offbeat Bride: Marissa
Her offbeat partner: Josh
Date and location of wedding: Owl Creek Farms, Temecula CA — June 25, 2016
Our offbeat wedding at a glance:
Our rockabilly-themed wedding was inspired by our love of the rockabilly look — bold colors, fun style, and an all-around good time. While we love rockabilly, we decided to steer clear of the typical skulls that are common place in the style and geared it more toward the music by incorporating records into the decor and naming the tables after popular bands in the rockabilly genre (both new and old).
Tell us about the ceremony:
We were married under a large oak tree at our venue. The wedding party entered to an instrumental version of Elvis Presley's “I Can't Help Falling in Love With You.” I walked down the aisle to Johnny Cash “Rose of My Heart”.
We kept the wedding ceremony short and our sarcasm made the officiant laugh a couple of times (I'm quite certain he's never heard a bride answer “I suppose” before!). When the ceremony was over, we exited to The Stray Cat's “Can't Hurry Love.”
Tell us about your reception:
The reception offered fun, fun, and more fun including a tattoo table with temporary tattoos, a personalized cornhole game, caricaturist, photo booth, popcorn, cupcakes, DIYed ribbon wands, and a guitar guest book. The food was a taco caterer and we served home-brewed beer and a signature blood orange mojito (to match the persimmon color of the wedding). It wasn't stuffy or overly fancy, just a great time with friends and family.
What was your most important lesson learned?
The biggest planning challenge I faced was planning from a different state. Josh and I live in Washington but married in Southern California where we are from. We allowed ourselves plenty of time to plan and I had an excellent support system back home to help check out the venue and prep decor. The best advice I can give is not to stress the little things. At the end of the day, what matters is that everyone has a good time… not the cake topper, a shattered water dispenser, or exploding beer (yep, those all happened!).

So awesome! Thank you for sharing. Marissa and Josh are such great people it was a privilege to be able to document their day.
Love the colors of this wedding! I don’t think I’ve ever see a “persimmon” color scheme in a wedding before, and it lends a lovely Fall feeling to this beautiful June wedding!
Thank you meiry! The hubby loves orange after advising him that any more orange would look too halloween-ish ( as we were utilizing a bit of black too) we landed on the persimmon and peach to soften the color scheme a little. The persimmon was not easy to match that’s for sure! David’s bridal doesn’t even work with men’s warehouse on any coordinating pieces.
