We all know I'm a sucker for a colorful wedding, but my eyes almost fell out of my skull when Zahra emailed me about Anya's full-spectrum Australian rainbow wedding … the rainbow dress! The rainbow ribbon veil! The rainbow ribbon-flower bouquet! The RAINBOW EVERYTHING! Of course, it should surprise no-one that Anya runs a website called RainbowHairColor.com.

The bouquet, in case you were wondering, was made by the bride's mum and her friends. Here's a little video of them working on it:

Wait can we talk about the dress?

Well, here's the news that may disappoint some of you: ANYA'S DRESS WAS CUSTOM-MADE. If you want one like this, you'd need to have it made for you. Click here for our list of custom dressmakers who specialize in stuff like this. (I think Wedding Dress Fantasy could rock this style especially hard.)

Here's what Anya said about having the dress made for her:

In answer to the question about how the dress was made: it was custom-made for me. I had a friend who is a burlesque dancer and she recommended her friend who is a wedding dress maker by day and a burlesque costume maker by night!

We met up and when I said “rainbow wedding dress,” she was not so sure. But after showing her my drawings of what i had in mind and talking my ideas through she was sold and totally pumped about it!

She made it all from scratch, and had a hard time finding all the colours of netting i wanted. But she blew me way with the result!

The body was all boned and a proper corset (no bra needed!) and the back laced up. The inside was all silk so not scratchiness from the netting.

When we first put the rainbow colours against the dress we decided that it very bright and didn't blend in with the dress to well and so came up with the idea of using a white piece over netting it to tone the colours down and help it blend into the rest of the dress better. I think that's what really helped to pull the colours together!

And yes the veil is simply ribbons tied to a slide comb. Simple and easy!

  2. I LOVE those ribbon flowers. I LOVE the whole thing. Who needs just 2 colors for their wedding. Have the whole rainbow. I LOVE this whole wedding.

  3. I’m not a huge fan of rainbow, but that dress is FREAKING AWESOME!!! the pic of her twirling around in it is amazing!

  4. How absolutely lovely!! The dress is stunning, the ribbon veil is such a great idea, and the ribbon flowers are divine! You two are such a beautiful couple and I agree with Kate that everyone looks so happy. Way to be!!!

  5. Squee! I think this is the most super awesome wedding dress ever! The bouquet? LOVE!

  6. Honestly, I am usually not a “color” person. I like some earth tones with some blues. Period. Yet I LOVE how this turned out! The pictures are just so dramatic, happy, and beautiful! And was that a VW bus in the background of the flower-pic? Yup, I am officially in love with this wedding!

  7. Wow … I have to confess that my first thought as I read the words “rainbow wedding dress” was Yikes! And then I scrolled down … OHMYGODWOWIFREAKINLOVEIT!!!

  8. I love the pictures taken on Argyle Street by the Harbour Bridge! And how freaking amazing is that dress??????? How do people get such cool dresses!! I wish they made cheap dresses like that.

  9. Wonderful! As usual, what really makes it work is the incredibly happy couple. Can’t wait to hear more about this one!

  10. LOL! This is (sort of) what I had in mind to do for my wedding … I’m totally glad that I’m not the only rainbow-crazy bride out there! LOVE the dress – and yeah, who says you only have to have 2 colours? Pick ’em all, and behold how gorgeous it can be …

  11. this is my favorite wedding post ever. i love every photograph and i think she did an amazing job of not making a rainbow theme overwhelming or tacky. it looks like they did a perfect job! and how cool is it that her mom is the photographer? awesome! thanks for sharing!

  12. PS: If possible, can we get more info on the dress? I went to the other sites, but no info there either. It’s just too stunning to not have a story!

  13. Oh my god, those pictures made me want to weep with love for all the color!

  14. Beautiful wedding!! I was thinking of how to add rainbow to my hawaiian/costume themed wedding next month and looking at your wedding gave me some great Ideas!! I got a question though… did you just add tulle in rainbow colors to an original wedding gown? and for the rainbow veil Im guessing the ribbons are attached to a comb ? congrats to the couple!!

  15. Oh my god I don’t even have words for it. I want that dress!! I love love love weddings with vibrant colors in them. These guys rock!

  16. Thank you so much for all the comments!

Also the parasol im carrying was painted by both of us in Perth where where got engaged!

And the parasols carried by the bridesmaids where painted by my best friend, Racheal De La Mare (Maid of Honor) and I and Davids Dad did Chinese characters on them. One parasol said: ‘God bless this marriage,’ another said: ‘Grace and Prosperity,’ and the third said: ‘Together Forever.’

Thanks again for all the lovely comments if you have another question just ask!

    • How can I get a dress like it but not like it? I want my wedding to be rainbow themed and a dress like it, but I wouldn’t want to “steal” your dress. very beautiful by the way.

  17. Hi, I’m ‘Mother of the Bride’ Thank you all for your kind comments.

You don’t have to spend a fortune to get this amazing look. I think Anya spent less on her dress than if she’d gone to a bridal shop.

The bouquet was hand made by myself, and my friends, it was a laugh, we honestly had no idea how it was going to work. We googled ‘ribbon flowers’ and took it from there.

The beach and park were decorated by ribbons.

When Anya told me about the rainbow theme, and she was having the dress made in Sydney, and we made the bouquet in the UK, without even seeing the dress – I must admit, I thought that it could all look like an accident in a paint factory!

But, she pulled it off, and more than!

YOU can have the wedding you want! Just don’t skimp on the photography, get the best you can afford, it’s all you will have to remember the effort put into the day.

Oh, that and your wonderful husband!!

    Yasmin

  18. So gorgeous!!!
OMG, I love rainbows, and had toyed with the idea of having a bit of rainbow in my gown…so glad to see it can be pulled off! 😀

  19. Great to see all the attention to detail. Such a beautiful theme for a wedding, so bright and cheerful. Congratulations =)

  20. Holy mackerel! Anya, thanks for swinging by and telling us more about your beautiful dress. It certainly does peak one’s curiosity with its beauty. Love the hubby’s outfit, too!

  21. What a stunning couple! The colours are awesome, I particularly LOVE the dress and parasol. Congratulations!

  22. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeou!! But what nearly had me in tears was the video of the Bride’s family making the bouqet. How lovely and meaningful to see the excitement (and concentration) of family members taking part!

  23. Hi I am the photographer from this fab wedding!
When I was 1st asked by the brides mum to photograph her daughters wedding and it was a "rainbow" theme..I thought..ok interesting and didnt know what to expect. But I have done over 1500 weddings and this wedding would have to be way up on my top favs ever. It was so simple (in a beautiful way). It just goes to show that you dont need a huge budget to carry off such a wonderful and unique wedding day. As you might have seen the images we I also took the day after which we nearly got rained out!! I think I will find it truely hard to come across another wedding that could even come close to it…but if anyone else is thinking of doing something simular…GO FOR IT!!! and have fun!

    • Vanessa! You really rocked the rainbow-ness! What an fabulous wedding dress and a gorgeous bride and groom too! Thank you for submitting this, I might never have seen it otherwise. I adore!

  24. Wow! I love it. How did you get the rainbow into the dress? Who designed it? I would love something similar!!!

  25. Maid of honour here! So lovely to see Anya, David and the dress all over the internet 😀 Just thought I’d add that she looked even more beautiful in real life! Such gorgeous photos too 🙂

  26. oh my. ohhhh my. THE DRESS. i love offbeat bride, i really do. but up until now, nothing made me THAT JEALOUS.
    this. dress. is. pure. bliss.
rest of it too, of course. but. the dress!!
i´m gonna repeat that statement a couple more times in silence now.

  27. I’m in love!

I love the second dress, but something shorter, above the knees. I simply refuse to wear a long dress.

Good thing I’m having my wedding around noon or some time, since those are less expensive (And since it’ll be in December, and thus warmer).

  28. I Neeeeeed To know where she got this dress!! Holy crap it is too awesome!!

  29. Their is so much joy in all these pics can’t tell if the smiles are brighter then the dress. spectackular

  30. I also want to have a rainbow wedding but,I want my dress to be a different style! Her wedding was very PRETTY!

  31. I love it all!!! I want a dress like this for my wedding! I wish I could find something like it!!

  32. I so want this dress, my son has Autism and I wanted a colour wedding dress 😉 to celebrate our family.
Can you direct me on how to get one and where from?
    Thank you

  33. The gown’s gorgeous but so is the bride herself! I love that last kissing shot, she has such a shy, sweet face.

  34. Absolutely LOVE it! And totally reinforces my idea of rainbow bridesmaids…maybe I’ll do a rainbow petticoat under my dress now because this is STUNNING!! 🙂

  35. OMG. Why have I never seen anything like this before? Not even copycats! I love this. What a brilliant idea. Just…wow!
