Offbeat Bride reader Katie said that she never thought she’d have a white dress. So, she explained, “I really colored it up with my accessories!” Including this awesome shock of rainbow colors in the ribbon that laced up the back of her gown.

Incorporating a bold splash of color into a traditional silhouette can completely transform a wedding look, as demonstrated by this vibrant rainbow-inspired ensemble. For those who feel a standard white gown doesn’t quite capture their personality, colorful accessories offer a creative and impactful solution.

The centerpiece of this styling is the corset-style back of the gown, where a traditional white ribbon has been replaced with a vivid rainbow sash. The lacing technique showcases a beautiful spectrum of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet, culminating in a long, flowing bow. This detail adds a dynamic element to the dress, especially as the long ends of the ribbon catch the breeze during an outdoor ceremony.

To further tie the theme together, the look features a statement necklace that mirrors the rainbow palette. This helps frame the face and ensures the color story is visible from every angle, not just the back.

For couples looking to recreate a similar effect, satin or grosgrain ribbons in a multi-colored gradient are excellent choices for lacing. It is a simple modification that allows for high visual impact without permanent alterations to the dress. Whether it is a full rainbow or a specific color palette that holds personal significance, this approach is a fantastic way to celebrate individuality on your wedding day.

And look how pretty it looks blowing in the wind…

Rainbow effect
No seriously, that “colorful accessories” is an understatement when it comes to that AMAZING necklace of awesome!

Beautiful! Is that a hand-dyed silk ribbon? Absolutely gorgeous, and I love the rainbow contrasted with the white. I hope Katie had a fantastic wedding day and a great marriage! 🙂

I thought about doing that with my ribbon and didn’t because I ran out of time to find one that coordinated well.

But Katie’s looks AMAZING and I really wish I had done it too!

That ribbon! I NEED THAT RIBBON!

I want to do ribbon roses for my bouquet, and I have been searching high and low for a non-wired ribbon to do some of them with. Where did it come from? I MUST know!

EDIT: Well, look at that. There’s already a link there. NEVERMIND!

That necklace is stunning as well!

It might be worth it to stop by any local chocolate stores that tie their boxes with seasonal ribbons. Chances are that they have a bag of old ribbons in the back room.

I love this. I was thinking of doing something similar, but I’m not sure what thickness of ribbon or what type to use. What do you think? I’m just a little afraid of busting out of my dress.

My mom was going crazy about it not being strong enough since I wanted it laced tight not that it was holding me up but just to stay on. So she kept saying she was going to buy a wider width and then fold it in half and sew it together. But we never got to that and I don’t think it ever got looser even though it is just silk.

I had a green silk ribbon to lace up my white dress, loved it !
It was liked a lot by friends&families as well.

I wanted a really wide ribbon but couldn’t find one in silk + the color I wanted, so I just ended up with a really thin one (less than 1 cm wide). That upset me at the beginning, but ended up just fine (and the color is gorgeous).

I love this!! I didn’t have a corset dress, but I used a silk scarf (rainbow dyed by my mom) as a sash.

I’m doing something similar. I have a wrap around ribbon in deep purple that cascades down the back of the dress, and I’m coloring the corset ribbon orange! I absolutely love the look. The rainbow is stunning!

I absolutely LOVE your ribbon! Can you provide details like where you got it? If not that, maybe the width and length or name and style of ribbon. Also, what material was it – silk, satin? My fiancee and I are both wearing the same dress, but hers is white and mine ivory. We thought that would accent us both perfectly. Any information would help. Thank you in advance!
