Whoever said bigger is always better hasn’t seen Madi and Rysa’s queer Madison wedding at the Wisconsin state capitol! But thanks to Samantha Waldron of Dutcher Photography, you can get a glimpse of the big love present at their tiny ceremony. If you’re thinking about a small wedding but are nervous to commit, the smiles on Madi and Rysa’s faces in these photos just might sway you. And if you’re looking for some wedding photo inspo that DOESN’T involve frolicking in a field, this couple has got you with their urban setting (you’ll never guess where they got hitched!) and downtown photo shoot! But our favorite part of this wedding by far was the first look moment… these two are seriously the cutest!
This queer Madison wedding was super short and MAJORLY sweet
Oftentimes small and simple weddings don’t get as much attention or praise as the big grandiose ones, but we want to change that with Madi and Rysa’s Madison wedding. The ceremony was short and sweet, just how they wanted it – a small assembly of friends and family who looked on as they signed the marriage certificate (which, by the way, they forgot at first and had to turn around to fetch it!). Madi and Rysa opted to forego a reception and do a downtown photoshoot instead (more on that in a moment). A great reminder that if a reception isn’t you and your boo’s thing, you don’t have to have one! You don’t HAVE to do anything on your big day (or small, but you know what we mean), so make it what you want!

This couple had their queer wedding at the state capitol
Lots of people have courthouse weddings… but capitol weddings? Yep, you read that right! Madi and Rysa had their short and sweet ceremony at the Wisconsin state capitol building in Madison – and damn, did it make for some classy photos! After the ceremony, they kept the urban vibe going by making their way downtown (cue the Vanessa Carlton) for a photo op at some of their favorite shared spots. And, as you can tell from the photos, their beloved pooch Trixie was more than happy to join them.

This queer Madison wedding's first look has us smitten
Okay y'all, Madi and Rysa’s first look is def our favorite moment from this wedding. Is it because it took place where they literally first laid eyes on each other (a queer bar)? Is it because it happened in front of a gorgeous mural that’s all about queer love? Is it because of the huge smiles they have on their faces after seeing each other? Is it because Madi is doing literal cartwheels in her wedding dress (talk about being head over heels in love!)? Yes, yes, yes, and YES!

While sadly Plan B is no longer in business, in its heyday it was where they first began hanging out together – together, they happily organized gay movie nights, Drag Race marathons, and other queer adventures, until they finally decided to make their “collaboration” official.

We are so dang proud to be part of this queer Madison wedding
Okay, pardon the pun, but it’s true! Madi and Rysa’s wedding was short, simple, and sweet – just that much more quickly they can get to spending the rest of their lives together. Congrats, Madi and Rysa, and thanks for sharing your special day with us!
