Caroline & Aimee’s three-day lesbian movie theatre wedding
Their first date was at a theatre and their wedding was held in that same place. D’aww! These two ladies are social butterflies since they had their son, and the sheer amount of people wanting to show their love meant they had to plan for it — in the form of a three-day celebration!
SarahKat & Ryan’s Firefly and steampunk Maine woods wedding
Out in the Maine woods, and just a little bit lost, this wedding came together with the spiffiest wedding party this side of Serenity. A little bit steampunk, a little bit Firefly-inspired, and a whole lot of geek-tastic love made this party a woodsy, DIY, and inked-up awesome-fest.
5 Offbeat couples whose weddings inspired me in 2011, plus a special discount for you
2011 was a tremendous year of growth for Milestone Images. This wedding was a big gay dance party in the mountains
Take two men in love, a weekend long party full of dancing, pies, and even Jazzercize, and you get the wedding of Chad and Matt. And any couple who provides parasols, ribbon streamers, and cardboard cutouts for their “gigantic gay discotheque” is aces in my book.
Why do couples borrow cultural elements for their wedding, and how can you do so respectfully?
Many Anglo-Americans have such a mishmash of culture that they have few or no traditions that hold significant meaning for them. Perhaps people are inclined to like culture, symbolism, rituals, and traditions. Maybe they seek these out in other cultures because they don’t have any of their own. Perhaps people seek to set themselves apart from a family or culture that they don’t wish to be a part of or celebrate.
Claire & Stevie’s Sydney meets Edinburgh garden wedding
A garden ceremony and beautiful old world stables make for a major statement, especially when you’ve never seen the venue and are planning it from across the world. These two somehow managed to craft an amazing Scottish party from all the way in Australia. Oh, and you might want to see how the bride managed to create her fantastic skirt and blouse combination. Black tulle and white ruffles… I die.
