The Offbeat Bride: Jackie, Loan Analyst

Her offbeat partner: Remington, Maintenance Supervisor

Date and location of wedding: Ceremony: The Church at the Ohio Village and Smith & Wollensky Columbus — April 7, 2017

Our offbeat wedding at a glance:

Our ceremony had a vintage theme since it was help at a historical museum, The Ohio History Center. But our intimate geeky wedding also had some nerdy bits, with references to Star Wars and Harry Potter. It was a pretty relaxed wedding with very little pomp and circumstance.

Tell us about the ceremony:

Remington wore Star Wars socks and walked in to the Star Wars theme song. I wore a Ravenclaw Diadem hair comb and walked in to the wedding song from Coming to America.

We had no readings and start to finish the ceremony was approximately 20 minutes. We did have communion, though. I tried to change the vows to "for richer or richer" but the pastor wouldn't move on until I said "or poorer" — the guests got a real kick out of it, though!

Tell us about your reception:

Our reception was at Smith & Wollensky in a private dining room. We had about 50 people in attendance.

Our cake topper was custom-made by Genefy Playground to depict my husband as Han Solo and myself as a Gryffindor student at Hogwarts. The cake itself was half lemon and blueberries and half carrot cake.

Our first dance was to a song called "Remington" by Granger Smith… I'm not sure if most of the guests noticed the song had the same name as my husband. Our last dance was to "Like a Wrecking Ball" by Eric Church… because, well… we waited for marriage to be intimate and it was going to go down as soon as the party was over. Ha!

What was your most important lesson learned?

Stop trying to make other people happy! I ended up not asking the right people to be a part of the wedding and vice versa. There was so much drama surrounding such a small, simple wedding and I couldn't even believe it! The closer we got to the wedding the more we wanted to cancel and elope. I am glad we kept our guest list short, I just wish we had given a few spots to different people as we had a noticeable amount of people flake and no-show.
