Attention House of Cards fans: this is the House of Cards engagement announcement of your dreams. Jane and Ryan are theatre makers who wanted to announce their wedding with the dramatics befitting an actor and director getting hitched. And boy did they. Let's hear from Jane about how it all got started and then watch the video itself…
My fiancé and I are theatre makers in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. I mostly act, he mostly directs. We had been planning on getting engaged for a while, and wanted to do something fun and original when the time came to announce it. The idea came after I had my hair cut short for a show I was in that he was directing. I remarked that I looked like Robin Wright and he said, “that's how we should announce our engagement. We can do a House of Cards parody and it can end with us knocking our engagement rings on the table.” We quickly fell in love with the idea.
We gathered a couple of friends over and after swearing them to secrecy, they helped us write, shoot, and edit our video, and unleashed it on social media the next day. I'm very proud of it because I think our announcement is very reflective of the way we are together: creative, fun, and always doing things on our own terms.
Are you loving this as much as we are?! So now we're throwing it to you: how did YOU announce your engagement? Tell us about it in the comments and we'll round them up for another post!
Ahhhhh! This is so fucking amazing! My husband and I are huge House of Cards fans! So much so that my wedding band is inscribed with “…more than sharks love blood” Congratulations on your engagement and may your marriage be as powerful as Frank and Claire’s 🙂
Thank you so much! We are very excited about this alliance. 🙂
My fiance and I did a parody of an Elaine May and Mike Nichols’ Playbill. We both work in theater, and we both like them, so it was a perfect fit!
