The Offbeat Bride: Jennie
Her offbeat partner: Daniel, Information Technology
Date and location of wedding: Brevard Zoo, Melbourne, FL — May 18, 2013
Our offbeat wedding at a glance: Having our wedding at the zoo was an amazing setting. We created all of the invitations based on retro travel and adventure, which was a theme we continued throughout the wedding. We had animal prints, peacock feathers, animal crackers, and tropical-themed centerpieces.
Almost everything was handmade, including the boutonnieres, bridesmaid bouquets, hair piece, card sign, origami, invitations, programs, signage, etc. Seeing everything that I made come together while marrying the most wonderful and fun man was incredible.
Tell us about the ceremony: Our ceremony was a lot of fun. My uncle wrote and read a sentimental, yet comical, poem in the style of Dr. Seuss. We also had some excerpts read from Oh, the Places You'll Go.
To share the experience with all of the guests, we had a ring warming with all 150 guests.
Our biggest challenge: Timing. Everything just felt rushed all day, I wish we had more time and finished more things in advance.
My favorite moment: Being able to share the day with all of our friends and family. And then seeing Daniel's face as I walked with my dad down the aisle was amazing.
My funniest moment: The best man's speech was hilarious. Also when the photo booth props were brought out onto the dance floor, it was a riot.

Enough talk — show me the wedding inspo!
This is one of the coolest weddings I’ve ever seen! Gorgeous couple, fabulous flowers, and a truly amazing color palette. The party planner did a wonderful job of fitting the event to the venue, maintaining a taste level, and adding loads of fun. Congratulations to the happy bride and groom!
I want to go to this wedding! Beautiful.
The peacock shoes! Sigh…
Mel-boring brides represent! lol
Your wedding is so elegant – it’s the perfect blend of beauty and whimsy (peacock feathers and Lego figures with light sabers … you can never go wrong). Not to mention all the fedoras!
Lovely, all of it. <3
No joke, I ordered that Lego piece this weekend. Fun!
Beautiful wedding, I love the variety. Congrats!
Aww… I love this wedding at the zoo, Brilliant!!
oh this wedding looks amazing!! just found lots of things to inspire me for my own wedding
It’s like this bride just materialized what was in my head! We just picked a zoo as our wedding and I had been thinking of peacock blue as a color before we even settled on the zoo theme. Feathers are awesome! I love the butineers. Would not have thought of that. Stealing it! Also, I had been eyeing that wedding topper on the lego website since my fiance and I started getting serious because he loves legos. I like that you incorporate that as well. I just didn’t want to use it as an actual cake topper – will probably go with cupcakes anyway. Love, love, love this! Thanks for the inspiration and ideas!
