Susie and Jordan planned a casual reception with a cocktail party vibe to celebrate their marriage with family and friends. It was such a tight-knit group that every single person they invited was in attendance! They were married in a private ceremony with their parents a few days prior to their celebration, so they were focused on having everyone they love in the same place for a ton of fun. It was a seriously lovely fall-themed wedding. Here's how the couple explained it…

This was largely a DIY fall-themed wedding, so we selected every detail and quite a few things were handmade. We bought and arranged all of the flowers, made the favors (jars of Jordan’s homemade granola with paper crane name tags that Susie folded), carved the pumpkins (which were drilled to look like Moroccan lanterns and placed in the windows and around the grounds), and strung lights everywhere. The greatest thing about doing it this way was the amount of teamwork from family and friends that made everything come together. It was very special.

We knew that we didn’t want to have a time limit on the festivities, so we decided on a vacation rental so that we could make a long weekend out of it and have our family stay at the property with us. It was crucial that we were able to dance and hang out well into the evening. Ultimately, this beautiful house in New Paltz allowed for us to have a pre-wedding cookout the night before, the wedding dinner and cocktail party, an after party, and a brunch the following morning. We settled on the Hudson Valley area because we knew it would be beautiful in autumn and it’s also not too far for out-of-town guests.

Our moms made miniature cheesecakes in three different flavors for dessert: chocolate, pumpkin, and vanilla bean. A big, elaborate cake felt too fancy, plus our moms are really excellent bakers. We even had a stash of vanilla beans that Jordan’s aunt had imported on her last trip to Bali! everything was delicious. We gave a cheeky nod to tradition with one large cheesecake with a ceramic cake topper of the bride is giving the groom a “love pinch.”

  1. Absolutely beautiful! So much attention to detail by the bride and groom. Wonderful that family could pitch in and be a part of the celebration. Photography was outstanding and the bride really rocked that red dress! She looked stunning.
